- It works!!! I officially have a Storm fully functional on Alltel.
What you need:
An Alltel Smartchoice plan for Blackberry.
An Alltel agent willing to do the esn change...
Blackberry Desktop Software.
Qxdm (I used version 2.09,00)
Alltel Prl.
I recommend already having a Blackberry on Alltel...
Before you start with the Storm:
1. Backup your previous Blackberry with Desktop Manager. (You can probably just backup the service books but I chose to do a full backup because I wanted everything to be transferred.)
How to:
1. Begin by going in to nam programming by pressing ##000000 send.
2. Change your bberry registration id to 144 and go ahead and change your sid and network id. (This is where I would use a Blackberry already on the Alltel network and copy the settings.)
3. Restore the Storm with Desktop Manager.
4. Write the alltel prl using QXDM. (Do not use qpst. Bad things have been known to happen with blackberry's) If you are unsure of how to do this I recommend not even messing with it...
5. Have the agent do the esn change to the Storm.
6. Activate the phone. (I had to do *22801 to reach Alltel's activation system.) Mine would also revert back to Verizon for awhile so I switched the network to "home only" and that kept it on Alltel. I then dialed *22801 again and updated the prl on the phone and took it off "home only" and it has not reverted since.
7. Go back to manual nam programming and verify that the settings match your previous Blackberry.
Sip: [email protected]
Password: alltel (this will be blank after you exit nam programming but will stick)
Mip: [email protected]
6. Make sure you press save and then the phone will restart. The phone should begin to provision and you will see the web. If you have problems, go to options/advanced options/host routing table/ press the blackberry key, and register now. After the registration sends, I pulled my battery, let the phone restart and then it provisioned. The first time provisioning I had a data error so I pulled the battery and restarted the phone. After it finished rebooting, it went to the browser and was ready for email setup.
I hope this works for you... Luckily it did for me.

Ok, Here are the steps for EVDO!!! Everyone needs to give a special thanks to myPDAphone and digitard for their hard work on this project!!!
This will require QPST which if you were able to find QXDM then you will have QPST to go along with it... (I will not post a link to download this software nor will I respond to any PM's asking where to aquire this software. All it requires is a simple google search. We have laid all the work out for you, it may take a little effort on your part. Also, anything you do to modify your phone may void your warranty. We are not responsible in any way if you are to damage your phone or PC in the process.)
1. Open Blackberry Desktop Manager.
2. Go to device manager on your pc. (Control panel, System, Devices, Device Manager)
3. Go to Com Ports. Change your Blackberry Device Com Ports to Com 1 and 2.
4. Open QPST and highlight the COM PORT which your phone is on. Then go to Service Programming.
5. Click on your phone in the Service Programming Box.
6. Press Enter for password. It is 000000
7. Click Read from phone in the bottom left hand corner.
8. Go to the ppp tab.
9. Click the AN button.
10. Leave the username alone. For the Password, you will put the ESN shown in QPST at the top of the program. It is 8 characters long and make sure you use all CAPS.)
11. Do not check Req PW enc.
12. Click write to phone.
13. Allow the phone to restart and you should have EVDO! If not, please go through the steps again. It works...
I do not have time to answer everyone's PM's. If you send me one, I will attempt to respond in a reasonable amount of time. If I do not respond, it is not to be rude, it is simply because I am busy with my regular job and simply do not have the time... Thank your all for your understanding.Last edited by jmotl; 02-28-09 at 10:59 AM. Reason: Added steps to obtain EVDO speeds!!! :D
12-18-08 02:17 PMLike 0 - Well Blackberry Icons are typically universal... So the messengers, google maps, and third party icons work fine... I'm sure if I tried I could get Axcess apps for it but I could care less about buying ringtones from Alltel... The only Icon I have from Vzw is the Vzw Navigator... I can delete it but I figure I will keep it for now... The only other Verizon logo is when the browser first provisions... Other than that, the phone acts like I bought it at an Alltel Corporate store...12-18-08 03:03 PMLike 0
- Very cool, I'm not really sure what all of the acronym's mean, but nonetheless it's awesome you got a Storm to work with Alltel
Qxdm, Alltel prl, nam, qpst? I doubt I'd ever try this, but can you clarify what these are? Qxdm and qpst are Qualcomm software tools yes?Last edited by SirDes; 12-18-08 at 07:01 PM.

- Sounds awesome but what about using it on the Alltel BIS. Doesn't it give you a network error when you try and switch devices on the bis?12-20-08 02:51 PMLike 0

- Sounds awesome. The problem is I can only get my hands on QXDM 3.09 and I don't know the syntax to get it to write the PRL. That's where I'm stuck now.12-22-08 03:56 PMLike 0
- This is like the impossible project. I've been working on it since 9 this morning.
I can't get QXDM 3.09 to write the PRL because i don't have the command for it.
I tried to DL QXDM 2.08 but i'm having the license issue that the known fixes don't seem to be solving,
I tried Universal PST but for some reason I'm getting an error with the hardlock.
At this point I think I give up and I'll wait for Verizon to take over Alltel officially.12-22-08 05:13 PMLike 0 -
No, that does not mean anyone can waltz into any store that has an Alltel sign today and buy a Storm on Jan 9th. It will be some time before that happens. I'll let you all know when I've bought mine12-22-08 05:35 PMLike 0 -
But would that mean that after the 9th current alltel customers would be able to go to a verizon store and switch over? Or will we still have to wait through the transition period?Last edited by ThePerfectStorm; 12-23-08 at 12:36 AM.

- Hi jmotl, were you able to get EVDO data working on Alltel? I have everything working on my Storm except for EVDO. 1x works just fine, but the phone constantly attempts to connect to EVDO and then switches back to 1x. When the phone shows EVDO, the Internet stops working.
I have tried the 30033 PRL you get over the air as well as manually uploading the 40036 PRL, but both have the same problem. Any thoughts? I have not tried the service book backup/restore trick yet, so that could be the piece I am missing.12-25-08 07:40 PMLike 0 - This is working for me as well now, thanks to some help from jmotl - He is the man.
I'm also popping between 1X and 1XEV. I'm running 30033 and can't seem to get 40038 written to the phone. Oh well, i'm willing to live with that until Verizon and Alltel start sharing roaming lists.12-26-08 10:12 AMLike 0 - There is a very good chance that you will not be able to find a good version of QXDM 2.09.00. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy that I can share with anyone. The best advice I can give would be to research how to write prl's to Blackberry's. The solutions are out there. I just used the one I always use... Sorry12-27-08 01:23 AMLike 0
- Wow this is exciting. I'm wondering if there's a way to do this at USCC? Hmm
