Thumbs down fix my mms AllTel!

So I have had both my BB 8130 pearl and my service with AllTel for only a couple of months. The only issue I have yet to find a solution for is not being able to use mms on a mms capable phone. Especially when I'm paying for it. AllTel customer support informs me that the issue is with RIM and that they are supposed to be making a fix but nobody knows when and I have not found any information on RIM website. What's going on? Why is it that AllTel releases os ver. 4.3 before anybody else yet RIM can't seem to make it compatible with the AllTel network. Somebody has to be shuff their feet here. I have searched everywhere I can think of to fix this problem to no avail. Give me some ideas on who I should talk to in able to resolve this issue. Thanks people. Love the site

Sprint users have a different problem. Sprint won't enable MMS(PictureMail) on their device. Their stance is "It's a business decision."

That blows. I don't believe it is a RIM issue because Verizion is also a CDMA network like Alltel and Verizon has it working. I think they are feeding you a line to get you off the phone.

The 8130 hardware is mms capable, it's software, however, is not. And it's a RIM issue. I think they (RIM) are incorporating a fix for this, and other issues into a bigger release of OS upgrade across several models that is taking a bit longer than they anticipated...see the related discussions elsewhere on these boards for discussion of OS 4.5

I'm having a hard time with that. Then why is Verizon able to use MMS on the same software.

The release version of the 8130 software for USC is 4.3.0.170, where Alltel's release is version 4.3.0.149

Verizon is v4.3.0.60 MMS Works
Sprint is v4.3.0.137 No MMS
Alltell is v4.3.0.149 No MMS
USC is 4.3.0.170 MMS Works

I am missing your point. It doesn't have to do with the software. It is able releasing service books, which is dependent on carrier.

By the way, I do have the Sprint 8130 but using the USC software verision. It still doesn't work.

Obviously, different versions of the software have different capabilities. It's true of every other electronic device I've ever had with upgradeable firmware. Service books and the OS interact. Right now, Alltel is waiting for RIM to release software to enable mms.

When I got my 8830 last summer, I went round and round with Alltel about this. I was finally told by someone in customer service that Alltel uses Erickson for their MMS messaging and Erickson did not have the capability to send or receive MMS on their system. I suggested that they change to some other company that had the capability. Not sure if this was a line of bull or not. But I agree we are paying for a service that we cannot use to send or receive.

I had a palm treo 650, and I had this fight with alltel... Its not that the phones don't support it, its the fact that alltel doesn't allow it for there smart phones... I was told something along the lines of... You have data, and the internet, and email, why do u need mms.

I had the HTC phone with windows moble 5.0, for a short while in Sept 07, which I believe is a smart phone and MMS was available on that.

For some reason Alltel allows MMS on the two HTC phones they carry, however they block the option for other smart phones, why I don't know? It doesn't make sense that they would allow it on the HTC but not BB or Palm phones. I wish I could use my MMS as well, very frustrating.

However a work around, a very annoying one, is to send it to or have it sent to you via your cell phone email address.

Example: 1234567890@message.alltel.com

Like I said, it's annoying but it is possible.

The issues with mms on the blackberry on the alltel network has nothing to do with alltel but with rim. Rim is currently working on a fix for the issue. When alltel got the devices from rim and the mms was not working rim was contacted about the issue. as far as paying for mms, your really not your paying for a mms txt/bundle if u dont have a smartchoice plan. If you have a smartchoice plan then the mms is free. So as far as complaining about what your paying for if your txt is working then theres nothing to complain about because thats what you are paying for. When rim gets the mms to working on the blackberry then it will work too. I have friends that work at alltel in retail and tech and they r always talkin about the issue with me cause its nothing they can do about it and they get so many calls on it

See that is what seems weird to me. Verizon has the same device and MMS works. How is it a RIM issue and not an AllTel issue?
