Default Alltel deadline given for contract renewal

I received a mailer yesterday informing me I was eligible for a contract renewal and phone upgrade, and that I had until Sept. 9 to do so.

So, I'm wondering why the deadline date? I was told my local area wouldn't be transitioned over to Verizon until sometime in Oct. My best guess would be that Alltel is trying to get as many of their customers to renew before the last minute.

All this wouldn't matter much to me, except I do want to do the contract renewal with Alltel BEFORE the transition, BUT there isn't an Alltel BB phone upgrade for me.

Remember, I live in a rural area with very limited carrier options.

i work in a dual POS store (selling Verizon and Alltel) and I've heard through the grapevine (compeltely speculative) that Alltel is going to launch the BB Tour. Again just something that I heard and in no way is comfirmed.

This is my opinion and in no way reflects the opinion of Verizon Wireless or its affiliates. Please take any advice/comments I may give as my opinion and nothing more.

Yes, I've heard/read that rumor, also...and went into the local store and asked about the Tour coming to Alltel before the transition. The two reps I asked knew nothing or they weren't telling.

BlackBerry Tour 9630 Coming to Alltel

That was posted June 30th so I assume that if it's going to happen, it will happen in August. But from what I've heard, it sounds like it might only go to Alltel Divested Markets.

The Tour is coming to Alltel--August 20th.

The date on the mailer is probably for the special offer they mentioned on the mailer? Prices, phone model, etc.

Default No other info on mailer

The only items in the mailer were the usual "thank yous" for being such a good Alltel customer and why I deserve to have a new phone.

There was no text referring to any special deals on phones or prices.

The deadline is, most likely, to prepare for the transition into the new merged billing. So they have a set date as after that your area will probably start pre-transitioning.

Having said that. I know Divested Alltel is getting the Tour, but not sure about non-divested. It's all good. Have a friend in Divested so I plan to get one.

That sounds plausible. My area isn't "divested"...so, it's iffy about the Tour coming here. To be really, really honest, I don't know what BB I want to upgrade TO. I love my Curve 8330. Works perfectly and loaded with apps I like. I use the Curve 8900 Today plus theme, so even the screens have an updated look.

With Tour users reporting issues with their new phone, I'm not all that fired up to get one. Only other phone I *might* be interested in would be the Storm 2 when it launches, But, that is Verizon, and then I'd have to wait and renew through them, and I prefer the Alltel plans.

Do you happen to have a link to that theme? Would REALLY appreciate it

It is available through the Crackberry app store. This is the name of it:

Curve 8900 Today Plus V2 Replica Theme For OS 4.5 Only

This is an excellent theme...

if you want the storm 2 just wait until your area completely converts to verizon to upgrade. As long as you have a current Altel plan, you can keep the plan and put a VZW device on it. That's my understanding, I'll do some more checking on it to be sure but that's the way I understood it.

i'm just trying to figure out what's going to happen with us alltel people that are going over to at&t, since they're gsm and we're cdma, and then also the fact that my contract isn't up until middle end of 2010, are we going to be grandfathered in, forced to change our plan, etc?? makes me nervous. ]:
