Default aGPS now works with BB Maps on the Pearl/Curve/8830 (Still no for Google Maps)

Confirmed by users at HoFo

Looks like aGPS is now unlocked on Verizon for BB Maps. Still no go for other 3rd party apps though.

BB Maps: Yes
Google Maps: No
WLS: No

Discuss.

My understanding is that GPS on the storm is unlocked for third party apps. But I am happy that Verizon is taking a step forward.

There's a trapster beta tester in the storm forum that has confirmed gps is in fact unlocked 100% on storms, google maps is a google issue...

I'm glad as well!

One note! Those who argued against it being wrong to lock gps in the first place need to change their permissions to denie or not be allowed to use it at all

Not working on my VZW curve, what is needed to make this work for me as well?

I either get seraching for ever or the option to turn the GPS on will not start.

Help?

Looks like there is no need for the class action lawsuit.

Try a *228 /option 1, or resending service books. If that doesn't work try to upgrade your OS. I haven't had a chance to test mine but I will and update here.

so is this like a mistake by VZW, or a sign that the end of days are near?

I wonder if this was a stipulation by RIM for Verizon/Vodafone, to be able to carry the Storm exclusively? Would make sense, from RIM's standpoint, as Verizon would not be able to disable this feature, and everyone, including Verizon customers would be able to use their device's GPS as they see fit.

ok ... go to options>> advanced options>> applications>> scroll down to BB maps>> hit the BB button >> go to edit default permissions>> make sure all 3 say "Allow" and you should be good. Just make sure under advanced options and GPS, its also set for "location on"

I think GPS only works with 4.5 os, nothing lower...

also, do you have to have the official Verizon 4.5 os running on your phone, or would it still work if you have a 8130 from VZW but have 4.5.0.89 (us cellular) loaded on it?

Just tried and it works awesome. I did have to go outside to get it to find the sats but it works. No VzNav. Also to note I have the 4.5.0.77 on my phone. Had to do what Rican said.
