I have a Curve that is only a couple of months old. The silver button that unlocks the battery door is starting to pop out. One side is already sticking WAY out when I take off the battery door and it looks like the whole thing will pop out soon. And FYI, its never been dropped or handled carelessly in any way that would cause this to happen. Just one day I noticed it popping up when I was doing a battery pull.

Can I get a warranty replacement for this? If so should I call or just go to a local Corp. store? If I go to a local store do I need to take the box and all included accessories or am I ok just taking the curve? thanks!

If it is more than 30 days old they will probably do a Swap over the phone. You may get a refurb back or may get a new one total crap shoot on the Tech Rep you speak with. If you get lucky and get a good csr at the store (make sure you go to a Corp Store) they may hook you up, all depends on your attitude with them. i have some local corp store reps that are way cool with me and always give me the hook up and there are some that are complete **** off's. Good luck

You will always get a factory refurb after 30 days with Verizon. That's the company policy. Anyone else talling you otherwise is speaking for the 0.99% chance that you will get a new one out of the box, which unless the employee is breaking company policy for any reason, will not happen.

My replacement phone came in a box, but not the same box as I bought it in. Verizon told me this was a brand new phone before they sent it to me. I told them on the phone, if they are going to send me a refurbished one, don't bother, I will buy a replacement trackball. The woman told me I am entitled to a new phone. I didn't ask why. Some people on this board told me maybe it's because I have been a customer since Verizon's beginning and that I have never had an insurance claim, or that I've always kept unlimited plans. I don't know. But I will tell you, if this is refurbished and I've been bamboozled, hornswaggled and a victim of Tom Foolery, it's nicely done.

If it didn't come in the same type of box that your first one came in, then you got a manufacture refurb. Those come in white cardboard boxes with serial numbers on the side and nothing else. Typically has the letters FRU followed by the model number. ie. FRUBB8830 on the box.

Look inside the battery compartment. Do you see a green sticky dot that looks like this? Well, that's the smile of a refurb my friend.

I got my curve in June and have the same problem. I've also had to replace the track ball. I haven't made a claim because I fear the dreaded refurb.

Does the build quality suck on all Curves? Or is this unique to Verizon?

I'm starting to get a little concerned of the build quality. It really is a shame because I love the phone itself, but if its already starting to fall apart on me two months in (and I've been VERY careful with it)....well i can't help but worry. I had my moto razr for 2 years, and while it wasn't the best phone around, it held together quite well even after a few slips.

I'm going this afternoon to the local corp. store to see if they'll do a warranty swap for me. hopefully I can sweet talk them into giving me a new one. If not and all they offer is a refurb, well...i'm not sure what I'll do.

    AAAHHRRGGG!!

Well I thought I made out alright today. I went to a local corp store and got a warranty exchange. they didn't have any refurb curves so I got a new one. I brought it home, restored it to my previous curve's settings, and did a battery pull.......uh oh....
sure enough, the little silver battery door clip pops right out!! WTF?!? is this a common issue with curves?

    but thats not all......
I go to try and take a picture and my camera says "Could not start the camera. Please close other applications and try opening the camera again." so being the diligent crackberry user that I am, I go on here and search around. from what I gather if it isn't resolved with a wipe and reload of the OS, its a hardware issue. Guess what? yep, I wiped, reloaded OS, and no camera.

needless to say I'm getting a little jaded with the build quality and am really annoyed. So tomorrow I was planning on doing a little mall hopping anyway and luckily the mall I was planning on going to has a corp store. So I'm going to try for a 3rd curve. While I'm still holding on to hope that I get another new unit, I'm starting to think that maybe getting a refurb won't be any worse that getting a new one, seeing the experience with my second NEW curve.

I really love my blackberry and don't want to give it up, but if issues keep popping up like this I may have no choice but to either jump carriers or just give up on the blackberry altogether

Vzw will give you a brand new one if they don't have any refurbs on hand at the store. I've personally seen them open a new one (break seal and everything) right in front of me and hand me the new phone (same box my phone came in). You have to know the right stores that don't keep a lot of refurbs on hand. But, it's a total crap shoot to try and predict.

You are correct- this up to the store manager and is dependent by each case. While you may have seen this, are you sure the person you saw this happen to was not under their 30 wfg? just curious.

Most stores will not do this and will have you call VZW TS to have the device replaced. Very few stores tend to carry advanced device replacement stock.

Generally, anything under 1 year old, you can get a replacement at no cost incurred to you. I would take it to the Verizon store and have them repair/replace it for free.

I saw a comment on this thread about ordering a part. That's ridicoulous. For an electronic to fail or be impaired after 2 months of use is not acceptable. (Although I am a strong believer of, if it's not broken, no need to replace it).

Well I think things have been made right...finally. I went to a different corp store today and had them do a warranty exchange. once again a new curve was pulled out of the box for me. I was a little worried because it took them a while to make the switch, but I came back after a little shopping and all is good. I already ordered new clips from cnn.cn since it seems that its a matter of when, not if, those little buggers break.

I work for Verizon, so I'm pretty sure I know the answer to your question. The post right after yours suggested you to return the Curve- were you successful in returning or getting a warranty replacement?

Most stores [corporate] have 30 day return policies, sans rebate. The box must have all bar codes intact. Manufacturers' warranties usually only cover immediate defects on the phone, despite the fact that the warranty lasts for a full calendar year. If you were successful in returning/warranty-replacing the phone, I'm happy for you, however, the first thing that would have come into mind would have been- insurance. I hope you did purchase the insurance, and if not, I would discuss it with customer service to see if you are still eligible.

I'm not sure I understand this...are you saying that a phone less than a year old and becomes defective may not get replaced under warranty? Meaning we should pay the 5 bucks a month for insurance?

This is an honest question, is this insurance recommended at 5 bucks a month? That is $120 for my 2 year contract plus $50 if I use it for a total of $170 dollars - saying it was used once. I still have a few days to decide if I should get this "insurance."

If I read this correctly, Insurance will cover loss, theft, physical damage. What is covered by the first year by your carrier is a MFG defect. The $5 per month will extend mfg warr from the 13 to the 24th month.

It seems to me that a defective latch is a MFG defect. So why won't Verizon cover this? Basically they are saying insurance is required for when your device inevitably breaks.

It must be considered a MFG defect (and it seems Verizon DOES cover it) because I have now twice had my 8330 replaced, each time at a different corp store, for a defective latch. Now had there been evidence that I had dropped it or mishandled it, then maybe they could refuse the warranty replacement. Then the insurance would come in handy.

also for the previous poster, there is the 4.99 insurance which is just the insurance. then there is the 5.99 TEC that includes the insurance and extends the MFG warranty from one year to two years.
