| | International Email add-on for BB users
Hi all,
Does anyone know if you have to have a domestic data plan and then add the international data or can you just have the international data? I will be gone for an extended period and don't want a foreign two year contract but also don't want my domestic data if I wont be using it. Anyone know for sure?
I know better than to ask if you also get other data included on the international BB plan...I see just about everyone has a different answer for that.
Thanks for the help!

There is an international data thing for the email only. Data charges depend on the country that you go to. Honestly I would call in and get to PDA and BB support and ask them to detail it for you. 1-800-937-8997.
They can also set it in the account to expire for when you will be back in ths USA. Hope that helps.

TM offers their international extended services for a short period; they might invoice for a complete month. As far as I can see, you can turn these "on/off" options at the my-tmobile website.
ATT has a disadvantage since they require minimum service months for these same options

T-Mobile pro-rates, so if you had the $20 Int'l email add-on for one week, you'll only be charged $5, etc.

Thanks all for the advice. The trick here is it will be for an extended period of time. It just wont be long enough for the European contracts (24 months). The phone piece is easy, I can get the pre-paid stuff over there and use with one of my two current phones. The issue is getting data. From what I can tell all data in Europe comes with the 24 month contracts. I'm hoping the pre-paid data they just rolled out in the UK extends through Europe before I head out of here. The AT&T international stuff is flat out expensive but I did check them as that is what my personal cell is on.
I was hoping I could use Tmobile's international BB stuff to my advantage but I'm not sure how good of an idea this is becoming.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | This is not the case at all in my experience. I spent time in 17 different countries last year, used data all over the place and wasn't charged a dime for it. I was in China for three weeks, tethered my BlackBerry to my laptop, sent tons of PINs, IMs, used the internet all over the place and incurred no extra charges at all.

April 2009 is when T-Mobile intends to enforce their data policies, so I wonder if int'l roaming is included.

Had the 8320 w/TMo, asked for temporary international rate ($20), went to London for 2 weeks. They said to just call when I got back and discontinue service, which I did. Absolutely no problems. (Noticed the phone bounced around from O2 to Orange for data.)

Find me that clause because I've seen it nowhere.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | I don't have a contract with anyone except T-Mobile. When I go to Europe and turn on my phone with my Unlimited International Roaming plan, I'm connected to a carrier based on the agreements that T-Mobile has with the carriers in the country in question. That's the case whereever I am. I'm connected on AT&T at the moment because T-Mobile's coverage is so poor here. I don't have to pay for that; T-Mobile does and will continue to do so until they improve their coverage in this part of the country.
I've been connected to Mobistar, Vodaphone, Orange, Telefónica, Softbank, DoCoMo, China Mobile and CSL, for example and have never once paid a single data roaming charge in over two years.

International Roaming & Dialing. International roaming and dialing is available with some Rate Plans and on some Devices and may require an additional feature on your account. Whether roaming internationally or making and sending international calls and messages while in the U.S. (or Puerto Rico), you will be charged international rates (including for voicemails left for you and for data usage).
| I realize they don't always enforce charging for data use abroad, however not being billed doesn't change the fact that it's policy and could happen and sometimes does happen. It's important for people to know this to otherwise they are under the impression it's free and could therefore run up a large bill when they return home. Telling a rep "I was never charged before" or "someone on a forum told me otherwise" is not going to get your bill credited of those potentially expensive charges. That's all, thx.

When I go to the international roaming section, it tells me what it'll cost to use voice coverage in the country in question and that I'll need the international data plan in place for data coverage. I've never seen a single international data rate advertised and as I wrote earlier, I must have used 100MB of data in Europe and Asia last year at no additional charge.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | The rates are $10 per MB for Canada and $15 everywhere else. This information can be ascertained on MyT-Mobile or by calling 611. The point is, T-Mobile can charge for roaming as per the Terms & Conditions and people should be aware of this. I've never been billed either but some have and of course, I hope to never be billed lol
