Well I did it. I loaded bbmaps on my 8310. Pretty cool stuff. It is a shame that att attempts to block us from using bbmaps. It is not the fastest or best navigator out there, but it is free, and it uses the gps built in the 8310. It beat paying $10/month for telecrapigator.
are BBMaps and Google Maps step-by-step GPS apps (update automatically with each turn)? Kinda like how a Garmin or normal GPS device works?
Yes and no. Yes, you can get directions, and you can see where you are on the map, but there is no audio, and if you happen to get off of the route, there is no auto-rerouting with BB Maps or Google Maps. You will need something like Telenav for that. That's what I use, and it is well worth it if you rely upon your GPS to get around.
I think Google maps has much nicer looking maps. I also like the satellite view feature. As others have mentioned, BB maps is better for navigating purposes, but thats why I have a Pioneer with navi in my car
PS - ShadowFox, BB Maps doesn't work on my 8310 with 4.5.0.42 either.
