1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded. (Choose the 8830)
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
Have some patience, this could take an hour to complete. DO NOT unplug the device until it is finished!
I installed this update myself last night. I lost no data and really haven't noticed any true differences but of course being that I've only had it installed for a few hours there isn't too much to report.
I'm hoping that this update will address the 1XEV to 1x network drop issues.
When do you delete the vender.xml file? and do you delete the entire folder or just the one line in the folder? I have downloaded the file, but await instruction on the deletion of the vender.xml folder or file. thanks

I just sent you an email. I don't know how you have a whole folder. When I did it this mourning, there was just the file. I sent you the location of where the file is. Any other questions just ask.
OK I did the upgrade. IT DELETED MY ADDRESS BOOK. I have a back up. Can I use that to restore the address book, or should I just syn it with my computer at home which has my address book on it? When I look to do the restore, it appears that it is going to restore all the old data from the previous OS. What is the best plan here. I was afraid this was going to happen, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. NOT HAPPY
Do an advanced restore, and select ONLY the Address Book to restore.
And I guess you finally figured out you only delete the vendor.xml file, not an entire folder. No where in the instructions does it say to delete the folder, it says to delete that file, only.
I don't get it. If you backup using Desktop Manager, it's not backing up core OS files does it? As far as my understanding goes, it just backs up any contacts, saved settings (not necessarily OS settings) so restoring it after updating to a new OS shouldn't be a problem (overwriting new OS files with old)

Probably not, if it did, it would be an OS update for all carriers. Seeing how each carrier releases their own seperate OS updates, I'm assuming that it fixes problems on the carriers version of the 8830.
Actually it IS a folder that I deleted, and it is in the FILE. Thanks for the heads up on the advanced restore.
I don't think you understand at all. Once you run the install you go to the Loader folder and delete the verndor.xml. It's a file, not a folder that you delete.
This update does not address the radio issues. I lost all wireless coverage tonight (none of 1x/1X/1xev/1XEV were displayed next to the strength meter).
Oh well... maybe the next one. This is getting old...
I don't know, been playing around with my BlackBerry trying to find any fixes/improvements and I don't see any at all. Ringer is the same (though I don't think anyone was looking for this to be fixed), nothing seems to lock up (same with previous OS .176), memory leak still present, never had a problem with network drops but doubt it fixed that if any Bell users have been experiencing it. I'm with Bell so most likely it's something with their handheld but so far, it has done nothing. (is there a .196 for other carriers as well?)
I found something RIM fixed in this release. With all prior releases when playing a song in Media Player and the screen would time out and go blank it would momenteraly pause. It no longer does that with this release. For those of you with choppy music when you're in a bad coverage area or underground in the subway, try this new release and see if it's better for that or not.
