I decided to chat with a verizon rep. and I asked her if she thinks verizon should unlock GPS functions on the phone. I truly wasn't expecting an answer like she gave me. I was expecting a stupid copy paste answer. She is only a chat rep and may never have any impact at all and could be lying to please me. But, to me it was humorous.

Please wait for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience!

A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Jessica

Jessica: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?

You: I have a question about upgrading my phne and renewing my contract.

Jessica: I'd be happy to help you with that.

You: If I upgraded my phone with a 2 year contract I have 30 days to cancel the contract without fees?

    Jessica: Yes that is correct.

You: Do you know if verizon is going to unlock the GPS capabilities on the BB 8830?

Jessica: At this time we have not been told any thing about it.

You: Do you think verizon should unlock it?

Jessica: You can check with the store.

    You: What do you mean?

Jessica: I am sorry I sent you the wrong thing.

Jessica: Yes I think the should.

You: Thank you for answering that question.

Jessica: Is there any thing else that I can help you with?

You: Do you think verizon will unlock it... Basically, I am considering taking my phone back because verizon disabled the full features of a great phone. A phone that works on almost every other network. I am in a diffucult situation because I would like to cancel my plan if verizon is not going to unlock the GPS capabilities, but if they do I would prefer to stay with verizon.
Jessica: I am not sure if there are going to unlock it, I can give you a number that you can call and they can tell you if they are and when.

Jessica: Would you like that number?

You: Really? Yes I would. What is the number to?

Jessica: You can contact our technical support team and they will be able to assist you with this today. The number is 1-888-233-4813.

Jessica: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless, I look forward to speaking with you again. Have a great day!

Your chat session has been ended by your Verizon Wireless online agent.

OOO... How I hate verizon. I am curious to hear what their technical support team would say.

    Anyone speak with Tech support?

I agree with click. They say it is unlocked, but you have to pay to use a function on your phone that should be free. You can use their GPS software for 10 bucks a month. There are plenty of people who paid a few hundred dollar to use a phone with GPS capabilities, with Gmaps, Blackberry Maps, Live Search, etc.

But, if your girl does know how (other than paying more money)... I would truly be grateful for her to tell me.

Even when you do pay them the fee, you can only use VZNav. Verizon reminds me of that Comcast commercial of the "Big Old Expensive Phone Company". They have everything for a high price and lower quality.
