Default 8830 Data stops and doens't pick up until power cycle

Is anyone else having this issue?

We recently switched all our Blackberries from AT&T to Sprint and all the devices are pretty much 8830's across the board.

We have about 140 berries in total and of those around maybe 20 or 30 of them (including mine) tend to randomly drop the EVDO connection and shows 1x in it's place. It never picks the EVDO back up and nothing will fix it unless it's turned off or the battery is pulled.

It seems to be totally random, it does not happened to everyone at the same time or anything like that.

Is this a issues anyone on here is familiar with? If so has anyone found a fix?

EDIT: I should note that when it does this, no data at all works in or out. No messages will be received, I can't send any. Internet will not work, gmail, etc...

I have had the same issue (on Sprint as well).

No fix found. Happens about once a week.

I have a sprint 8830 as well and have noticed the same thing. We just got ours at work, and the first few days it happened to me as well. Now a week later, <crosses fingers> I have not had it happen.

However, I did enable my auto on/off settings so it goes off at night when I sleep and comes back on before I wake. That might "reset" it.

I also noticed that sometimes during the day I will get a message on my computer inbox a full minute or so before getting it on my bb. I think it has something to do the way sprint has EV and just regular data access. I am also guessing because EV isn't everywhere when the phone loses contact, it recycles searching for the signal. These are just guesses...

One thing I am certain of is that when it's happened in the past, I've been in a place where I have full signal strength, but it still does it.

Even our Sprint Reps are having the issue at random in their office.

Seems like such a erratic thing, which makes it that much harder to figure out...

I had a similar issue with my Verizon 8830 (posted about it here and at howardforums). In my case, the BB would auto wake up in the morning and be stuck in 1x, requiring a battery pull. I never noticed it switching randomly during the day though, it would always seem to happen in the morning. I also occasionally had a problem where in the morning the BB would turn on, but the radio would be off. When I tried to turn it on, it would get to the Verizon splash screen and freeze.

I was within 30 days of purchase, so I swapped it out for another new 8830. So far, the new one has been trouble free, but I have had it for just under a week so time will tell. I wonder if RIM is aware of this issue?

Since it is cross platform "sprint/verizon", I am guessing it is a 88xx problem. I am sure there is some bug in the operating system that exists. Or it could be something with the newer highspeed networks and optimizing for blackberry. Who really knows.... I am sure someone, somewhere is looking into this issue.

The one thing I do know after reading a lot of posts at crackberry.com, is that it would seem that the whole production of blackberries really needs a quality check. Between these issues, and issues with phones (I am presently waiting for a replacement 8830 as my "s" and "w" keys sometimes don't work unless I really press it in the right spot)

i have had the same issue...however, instead of pulling the battery and cycling power, i go to "manage connections" and turn all connections off, and then back on... this does the trick. I STILL HATE THAT I HAVE TO DO THIS THOUGH!

I wouldn't go that far. What Verizon people you might have run into describing "similar" issues are really not similar in terms of "exactly similar", which is what you're seeing from everyone with Sprint and the 8830. It's a network issues unfortunatly from everything I've seen and really limited to those Sprint subscribers. You might want to try changing your radio config from Global to XEV exclusively and see if that helps. At one time Verizon had issues with the OS code that governed the switch from network to network and would sometimes cause signal loss and even drop to 1x. Try switching from Global to XEV and see if it helps at all. The change will not effect you negatively if you don't travel out of the country. And even if you do, just remember to change it to Global or GSM when you go overseas. Give it a try.

I to am having this issue with a VZ 8830. I had no issue with my 8703e and then I went to a BB Pearl. I started having the problem immediately and switched to the 8830. Same issue.

I had that same issue with my verizon treo650, which made me switch to the BB 8703e, so I doubt its an 8830 specific issue.

Our tech support rep was able to pinpoint the issue
and correct it for 9 of the 9 new Blackberries.

There was a disconnect
from the RIM relay to the BES which didn't allow for data transfer. He
was able to push down service books from the RIM relay and hopefully
this will take care of the connectivity issues once the users perform a
Register Now to the Blackberries.

Please have all users (except Mike) register their device on the network
(Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > menu/Register Now)
and keep me informed if you continue to experience connectivity issues.

Thank you!

I have this issue on Verizon as well. It only happens every now and then, but it is annoying. I called Verizon about it and they instructed me to do a programming/service update, and that eased the problem, but didn't fix it. I don't really find this to be an extreme issue...but it is annoying nonetheless. Basically, unless you want to trade your phone for a refurb, you gotta live with it. Mine usually drops when I go into areas of low service reception, and it just fails to re-connect when service is better. If and when it does happen, just do a battery pull and you'll be all fixed up.

Mine happens when I am in an area with a strong signal. At my desk. My 8703 was rock solid. I have a co-worker that sits 10 ft away that is not having the problem. I wiped the device this morning and am not installing ANY apps for a few days. So I'm running a clean device now, enterprise activated on BES.

Update - I was going through withdrawal after the wipe so I reinstalled apps that I felt would have least impact, one at a time. So far, the only one I have not reinstalled is IM+, and so far everything is stable. Is anyone else having this problem using IM+ ?
