Kay...In doing some searching last night I found a few versions; for the 8800 and 8820. My question is this...

The 8800 and 8820 from what I have read are the GSM versions of the 8830, which is CDMA; is the device software compatible? Anyone?

No, it is not compatible. The 8800 version is only for the 8800, 8820 version only for the 8820.. They're device specific, sorry.

Very likely cuz he knows what kind of buz it will cause!
Um, by the way, just HOW IS IT you say you use an 8830 with T-mobile as provider???

On googling (I'm sure others did, too) I found some torrent and warez sites. Not willing to risk that but others might be willing - let us know.

I don't care about ring volume as there are fixes but the footprint on memory would be important. I already run very low. An even bigger OS might just be deadly so I hope Rim/verizon is efficient.

Before anyone goes and downloads any files from shady torrents, I will tell you all that I did not use any torrent or file sharing sites. It is an official beta version.

As far as the memory footprint, I did not do a clean upgrade, but even with all of my other programs, and the large office-to-go files installed, I still have 11 megs free.

The ring volume has been increased from 4.2, but not as much as I would have hoped.

    Have I missed any questions?

I know that there is a leaked version of 4.5 on one very prominent torrent site that went down for a period of time and then came back online fairly recently..... (Just check the mobile phone applications section)

Not sure if it will work on the 8830 though (haven't tried it myself)...

Yes it does. It also uses a new bookmark/history screen when you choose 'go to'.

Wow, 11MB after full install with some apps on top. That's super low. I've noticed that anything below 13-14MB and the darn phone desides to wipe messages out whenever it feels like. I told everyone that 4.5 would have memory implications, especially with Office To Go apps. RIM should be ashamed of the limited memory they put in these devices!!!

OK, so now that we know it's an official BETA for CDMA, when the speculated release?

Even the latest verizon 4.2.196 will recognize 8GB

^^^ Just the latest 4.2.2.196 from Verizon support 8GB. To my knowledge the .196 upgrade from Sprint does not. I think Verizon got RIM to pull some code from the 4.5 upgrade for Memory Card support and throw it into the existing 4.2.2.x releases.

With 4.5.0.33 running on an 8830... having trouble sending/replying to SMS messages. All other features seem to work OK.

Has anyone else with this OS experienced any SMS related issues?

As far as I'm concerned...version 4.5 doesn't exist until RIM/Blackberry says it does. I'm not going to chance bricking my BB or deal with all the bugs of a premature OS. My BB works fine right now with 4.2 .

Yeah, but the million $$ question is: will it show up before the bold appears on cdma carriers. I would sell my soul for the bold's processor on my 8830. I love my 8830, but as Ricky Bobby says, "I wanna go fast!"
