I currently have 4.5.0.138 on my 8330 which I installed about 2-3 months ago.

Needless to say I don't have that many problems and I used to have the .77 version officially released by verizon. I've noticed that .138 is somewhat faster and the mute button works just fine, but i've noticed that my data connectivity isn't what it should be and that it seems to be somewhat more choppy. I live in the Atlanta area if that helps... Anyways, what would you all suggest as the best overall (fewest complaints) Operating System for the blackberry 8330 on VZW?

    For the best non-hybrid OS, I recommend Sprint's 4.5.0.131:

For a hybrid, this will give you the speed of .160 without the radio problems of the standalone OS because it uses the radio file, and some other files from .131

It isn't. Something else must be going on with that poster's BB.

X is right, from all I've read .131 seems to work best with vzw(unless you choose a hybrid) and .160 is way faster than .131 IMO(I have used both).

I have the .160/.131 Hybrid... its super fast with no radio problems... Really smooth... Browser seems to be faster... Free's memory... I havent got the guts yet to move up to the 4.6 they made yet... I would recommend this hybrid...

Piling on the thumbs up for the .160/.131 hybrid OS for the VZW 8330. I've been using for the last few weeks with no problems and it is definitely faster than the straight Sprint 4.5.0.131.

160/131 hybrid works wonderfully for my VZW 8330. I've been through all the different OS's and this one is by far the best imo

I'm with you CW. I've been running .160 for the last week and I have not had any of the reported issues. Yesterday, I did have an issue with e-mails being delayed for about 45 minutes, but I have not had that issue today.

I have come to the conclusion that what works "great" on one persons device, might exhibit any number of issues on someone else's exact same device!

I remember when I first reported speakerblast on V.131, a couple of people on these forums literally said it was not possible, that it had been eliminated on that version, and that I must have done something wrong. Only when other people on v.131 started reporting speakerblast, was it acknowledged that maybe v.131 did not completely eliminate speakerblast for everyone.

I'm currently running v.160, with no problems. I upgraded to one of the hybrids, but did not notice any improvements, including the faster speeds that some people were reporting. And so I rolled back to V.160.

Bottom line..... I don't think there is any one OS that can be described as the "best" OS for everyone.

My advice would be for you (if you are comfortable doing it) to try different OS's for a short while, and find the one that works best for "you".

    Just my personal thoughts!

I've been running Hybrid OS 4.5.0.160/.131 for two days now and have experienced a lot of "hour glass" lag time. I also lost my notepad somehow.

Yes, a few times. I'm thinking maybe I messed it up using crackmem and deleted something of importance. Why else would I lose notepad?

I downloaded the hybrid, but when I go to C:/program files/common files, I cannot
find RIM in my common files.

If you are using Vista 64, look in Program Files (x86).

I'm sorry you are experiencing problems. You might have to reload your Hybrid OS, something quirky has obviously occurred during your first installation.

Also, if you have a media card in your BB, take it out and see if the hourglassing goes away. Sometimes, the media card can get corrupted during an OS loading operation. The fix for it is to move all your content off the media card, format the card in the BB, then move your files back to the card.

I went back to 4.5.0.131 and I haven't experienced the hourglass like before. So I don't think it is a memory card issue.

I was using the hybrid, with no problems, but the issue i ran into is that VZ just Aug 11 allowed the gps unlock for bb maps so i downgraded to the updated 138, i am not sure what i think just yet, i did lose bb messenger 5.0 and the updated facebook. any thoughts on an os that will allow all of these things?

BB Maps has been unlocked for GPS since December.

Any OS .131 or higher will support BBM 5 and all your apps, even the hybrids.
