Default totally new to BB world here...

...just bought a Curve 8330 last week from a friend of mine and have been trying to start wrapping my mind around this whole new smartphone world. So far it's been overwhelming but pretty sweet. Wondering if someone could point me to the simple app that I found once while browsing but can't find it again...all it did was set your BB to vibrate/ring/somehow let you know each minute when you're using your minutes.

Seems like a helpful way for you to monitor the minutes you use while browsing the internet, so you'll be notified if you accidently leave an app like FB open for a few hours and run up your minutes right at the end of the billing cycle, for example(not that I haven't stupidly done that once already*coughbullshitcough*)

thanks in advance, and hope to get some good ideas on how to get the most out of my new toy from this awesome resource!

I just did a bunch of searches on trackers, logs, alarms and can't find anything. No idea even part of the name? Did you find it at the crackberry appstore?

found it...MinuteSaver by Fabian Heuweiser. Looked under "Productivity" and then "Clocks" in BB App World.

free and only 9kb, so it really is simple. Gonna open FB and try it out now and see if it works well.

Your data package and your minutes are two seperate things.
"Minutes" is for phone calls, that's it.
SMS (Simple Messaging Service, aka text message) uses voice service, but does not use "minutes".
MMS (multi-media messaging service aka picture messaging), internet, and apps that connect to the network use data (kb, mb, gb, you get the idea). When you incur overage fees for data will obviously depend on your service package, some have unlimited data.
You can also log into MyVerizon to see your data usage / minutes usage throughout your billing cycle.

hmm..that's what I thought, and I do have an unlimited data plan within our family share plan. So one doesn't get charged for accessing the internet and using apps that connect to the network when one has an unlimited data plan? that's what I thought. I checked my Verizon bill and I have $96 in voice usage charges on my line and only $1.99 in data usage charges, and it says I had 237 billable voice minutes over our 1400 minute share plan. I know I didn't talk on the phone that much...hmm. I gotta stop at the Verizon store in town and figure this out...

They can explain your bill much better than I could. I always hated sorting out someone's charges, lol!
If I remember right, VZW has a 5GB limit on their "unlimited" data plan, might want to check that while you're there

buddy of mine works at the local Verizon store, so I got it all figured out. Don't have to worry about leaving browser open or anything...that 29.95 covers everything apparently (maybe up to that 5GB limit-I'll have to check that out, thanks for the tip)

what the charges were for was my family collectively going over the 1400 minute limit on our family plan...and since my number is the last one on our "list" of family numbers, the minutes I had were the "billable" ones, @ .40 a pop. So, even though I actually used the LEAST # of minutes this past month, the VZW bill stuck me with the most charges. I will be printing out the complete usage chart on the whole family's calls to show that I'm not the guilty party, and I ain't payin for my younger sister's 700+ minutes! ;-)

this smartphone stuff and data plans and all this is pretty new to me...can't wait to dig into whatall this BB gadget can do...
