my 8310 curve went blank and is flashing red lights (two consecutive times then a long pause over and over again.)

it was the first time after downloading the newest desktop manager and also downloading the proper ATT 8310 software for the phone.

i installed both fine then when i hooked up my curve to the usb and it prompted me to update my phone. i said yes and was off..

after that when it was in process of updating it says there was a fatal error and to try it again...it did 3 more times...on the third time i was looking away from my computer and when i turned back to the phone it was blank!!

what did i do? what can i do to fix this? i already took the battery off and put it back on and it stayed the same...

If your device has been unlocked, it will stay unlocked even if you change or upgrade or downgrade your OS. Has nothing to do about your apps.

hahaha, the good thing about being screwed, you have the choice to either crank it to the left or to the right. Just follow JC's advise and go from there. If it doesn't work (which I doubt), just let me know and I will do something dreadful to JC. I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Are you positive you have an OS for the 8310 model?

What is the exact filename of your OS file, and where did you get it?

WELL-- try this, download the LATEST OS for the 8310
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...70A3A6658DFDD5

Software For BlackBerry Curve 8310 (TM) BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.332 (Multilanguage)
    Package Version: 4.2.2.332
    Consisting of:
    • Applications: 4.2.2.181
    • Software Platform: 2.5.0.35
    • File name: 8310M_PBr4.2.2_rel332_PL2.5.0.35_A4.2.2.181_SunCom .exe
    • File size: 78.6MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.
To install a OS update from a different carrier you have to delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\VENDOR.XML first.

Maybe that will help... perhaps your other OS download was bad?

I was getting the "Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005]" also and tried reloading the OS over and over again to no avail. As a last ditch effort, I came across this post and tried a different USB cable. IT WORKED!! I have no idea why but it went passed the error and continued with installation. I now have a functioning blackberry!

Do you have any other suggestions?

I have tried the second link at the front and I still get nothing. It tried to connect, and then it won't connect.

Plus a new error message "Technicial Issue / Please return to place of purchase for repair" in itty bitty letters.

PS- I have a Tour on VZW
