Exclamation GSM showing and phone problems

Hey all,

Today around 2pm central time i noticed the status of my phone went from EDGE (all caps) to GSM (all caps) I didn't thing it was a big issue till my roommate who also has the same phone (Curve 8310 Both with AT&T) came in and said he got this message when a text didn't go through. the text message had a little red X where the check mark usually was and when you opened the message it would have a notification in the message at the top that said "Protocol Error".

Now i first searched high and low about GSM vs. EDGE and all that, and i am thinking that i can still send text messages while the indicator is showing GSM. I can try to resend a text message, sometimes more than once, and it will finally send through. BUT... when i tried to make a phone call, it would pop up a notification message that said "Call Failed". Now this happens intermittently and the most irritating thing is that i will get voicemail notifications out of the blue when my phone hasn't rang at all. People are calling me and leaving voicemail, the phone doesn't ring, but it gives me a voicemail alert once the caller has completed the voicemail.

I have tried restarting the phone with the power buttons, did a battery drop and waited for the phone to totally reboot. and checked every message board i know as well as a general google of EDGE and OUTAGE.

I have a Curve 8310 through AT&T with unlimited text and Data plans and have had no other problems until today with anything. And haven't ever noticed anything other than EDGE being displayed on the phone's screen.

Does anyone know of any issues with AT&T, EDGE being down, or anything of the sort? I am in the Chicago area just north of downtown, is there anyone else in the Chicagoland area that is having a similar issue?

Thanks much in advance for any help or comments.

Mikey

Hi Mikey,

THat is sooo weird.. I had the same problem myself today and never had this problem before and I am in New York City. I was sending a text message and in return i got the red X with a message in return saying "Network Out of Order"!! Whats up with that? I am on Tmobiles network and I have the 8320.. Who knows?? I thought it was just me too but I guess we had the same several issues with our BB. Maybe a network problem?

Media Net was down for several hours here in North Alabama this morning so it's possible AT&T may have had problems in your area as well.

thanks for the quick responses guys love it!! If anyone has any other thoughts please chime in. I know that there is a crackberry user that works for AT&T and often posts in the forums, if you see this please chime in as well. Everytime I have tried to call customer service to ask about issues, my phone will not work.

Thanks again

Mikey
