Someone please tell me that it will be out before my trial period with the Blackjack (Cingular) is over, early June, i gotta get rid of that thing....I'm waiting for the Curve to be my very first Blackberry. |
Hi NewBlackGirl,
I'm new to CrakckBerry.com, and I just read this thread, but I've had BlackBerries / RIM devices for probably 10+ years. I used to work for BellSouth, and we had the original RIM Messaging devices - pre-BlackBerry - I don't even remember what they were called. I'm also a PDA junkie, having had Palm, Pocket PC, and RIM. At one time, I actually carried three devices - Pocket PC for PDA, BlackBerry for Corporate Email, and normal cell phone. This was about 5 years ago, before convergence really happened. I now have a TMo7290, and am eagerly awaiting the TMo Curve release.
ANYWAY - You asked about returning the BlackJack. If you're still in your trial period with the BlackJack, AND you can take it back, AND you have another phone you can use for the interim while you wait for the Curve - I would suggest you return it.
Here's one key reason why - Because You Can. What I mean is that you have an opportunity to extensively use both devices. By waiting, you'll be able to compare your own personal experiences between the two devices.
Here's another key reason why - Battery Life. BlackBerries traditionally have GREAT battery life. I've heard that the BlackJack's battery life is HORRIBLE. The fact that Samsung GIVES you an extra battery is further evidence that this is true.
A third key reason why is Berry411 (do a Google search and you'll find it - I'm too new to the forums, so I can't post a URL for you). You may not have heard of it, but it is an incredible local search program. It is shareware, which means it's free, but you should pay the developer for it if you like it. It makes the BlackBerry exponentially more useful and it's only available for BlackBerries - not BlackJack and not Windows Smartphone devices.
Finally - Dependability. This is the key reason that I choose to stay with BlackBerry over all the other PDA/smartphone options. BlackBerries just work. They have historically not been the sexiest, or the most flexible, or the most extensible (although that may well be changing with this new generation, and especially with the Curve), but they have always been the most USEFUL. In other words, I've enjoyed playing with all of the other devices I've ever owned, but when it comes down to actually GETTING IMPORTANT THINGS DONE (phone calls, address book, business emails, personal emails, calendaring, tasks, memos, password storage, SMS, browsing, IM, etc.), BlackBerries do the best job - hands down.
So if it's important to you for the device to actually work, have good battery life, and get the most important things done simply and well - you need to take the BlackJack back and wait to try out the Curve. (You might even consider trying a BlackBerry 8700 or 8800, then trying out the Curve... IF Cingular will allow you to do this...)
