Default BES and a whole lota contacts

my Co. just got Verzion Curves and a BES.

we have our public contacts database that everyone needs to be able have access to. i know for the BIS that you cant save contacts to the card. is it different for BES? or is is possible for there to be a shorcut on the phone that sends you to the folder itsself on the exchange/BES?

does this make sense? any thing helps. i dont know how much space 8,000 contact will take up on the phone. our BES admin hasnt quite figured out how the contacts get pushed to the phone yet. and he is waiting to get 5.0 to figure it out.

i have 318 contacts and it take up 86.66k on my phone (no on the BES) is there a default kb that each contact takes up?

let me know if you need anymore info.

P.S. - the washer works well too!.... And the toilet, the bathtub, the sink, the shower

For public folder access you need BES 5.0 which has just been released and handset firmware 5.0 which has not been released. So there is no way to access the public folder at the moment.

You may be able to get beta 5.0 firmware but I would only use this for testing.

8000 contacts on a device could be more than the device can hold. The most I have seen is 6500 on an 8900 curve.

There may be a third party app that can help with this or you could create a contact in active directory for each contact and then you could do a lookup instead of having them all on the device.

Well darn, thats what I was afraid of.

at least I made sense on what needs to be done. Do you have any other ideas?

Thank you so much for your help!

Is this a common Situation? do you have an idea of what companies do in cases like this?

via going to the url and navigating to the folder? that would work sorta... somewhat time consuming unless we can get a web link on the home screen. even a bookmark would kinda work.

its a thought, i will let IT know.

can a BES admin make and push a serivce book that would link an employee to the page? (kinda like what AppWorld does?)

The better solution is still to get out of public folders and make them contacts in AD. As other have sid, they can then be accessed via lookup.

yeah, we are working on that. problem is we have to do it by hand. as AD was never set up in outlook, its going to take a while.

There can be more than 8000 contacts on a device. you are limited by the memory of the device. I currently have over 12000 on my bold.

sith, do u know how much memory that is taking up? we have the verizon curves so i am thinking we would have enuff memory depending on how much each takes up. i calulated it at about 3 kb per contact which would take about 24 mb, which should be fine. they arent suposed to have anything on the phone really since it is a work phone.
