Smile BES 5.0 and Windows Server 2008

Hi All,

Is anyone using BES 5.0 on Windows Server 2008?

I tried doing a migration upgrade today and everthing looked fine until I tried to logon to BAS. Error 404.

When I looked in the BBAS_AS log file it appears that the BAS cannot talk to the database. The database upgrade worked fine during the install so I know that everything is fine with the database.

When I removed and reinstalled the BES 5.0 software it said that it needed to install msxml6 as it wasn't installed. This was strange as it said it had installed it as part of the original installation.

When I tried to install msxml manually it just jumps to completed.

I've had a look around and msxml6 is now a protected Windows file and I think this is stopping the installation. Msxml6 comes with Windows server 2008 so it shouldn't need to be installed but the BES 5.0 installer seems to think that its required.

As its missing the msxml6 version that it requires I think this is why BAS cannot talk to the database.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Any help is appreciated.

Don't worry everyone. I have fixed the issue.

It was due to a mismatch in the SQL configuration. The BES was set to use port 1433 to talk to the SQL 2005 server and the SQL server was set to dynamic.

Once they matched everthing worked fine.
