Default Newer blackberries can the BES adminstrator or IT people disable cameras for security

We would like to deploy newer blackberries to our users, but we have one major concern , the cameras. Our shop has alot of very confidential information and printed material and have stayed away from new blackberries because of the camera

Can the new blackberries have the camera disabled in such a way that the users can not easily re enable them?

Many thanks

I think this article from Blackberry will help. I am not sure which device you are looking at, but this should point you in the right direction for the IT policy to disable the camera. I hope it helps, plus get new Blackberry's to your staff!!

Sorry here is the one explanation. I should be able to post the location in a few. Sorry for the delay...

There should be an IT policy that says Camera something in it. It has two options disable camera and disable video camera. When you disable it the icon will still be on the blackberry but it will say something like your admin has locked the function same for the video recorder.

Here is another link. I think if you contact blackberry via this website, they should be able to get you all dialed in.

Camera policy group

It's very simple to disable the Camera functionality on the newer BES versions.

You just need to click Blackberry domain in the left pane of Blackberry manager, then "edit properties", then "IT policy". From here you want to create a new policy (do not just amend the default policy) click on Camera policy group and set both options to true.

When a user on this policy tries to use the camera they will get a message saying "this function has been disabled by your IT administrator".
