I downloaded the Garmin software as they allow for a 7 day trial period. I'll give it a shot. I have the TomTom GPS unit and like that interface better.

I have TeleNav and I'm really happy with it. It has been an amazingly accurate navigation system for me. I drove from Chicago to visit a friend in Vermont and it took me right to his door even though he lives out in the boonies. It's not free, but it's well worth it in my opinion.
Wisepilot! Used it for three months (length of my subscription for $19) also while on vacation in edmonton, I never got lost once. But don't really use it very often now since I can find places my city pretty well.

Both Waze and Garmin seem to use the data service, which is not good when roaming.
What options are there that use maps that you can download to the device in advance?
I think any of the apps will use data service - won't it? Your unit can lock on GPS signal (which is free) but your unit will keep on downloading maps (which uses the data service). If you don't want to use data service - you need to provide a locally stored map data - which I don't believe is available.
Waze has horrible reviews on BB App World. Garmin costs $99 + requires data plan. TelNav from Bell is for $49 and includes all the data that is used with this app for the life of BB. Not a bad deal!

That is a great deal but I can't get it to work on my torch. Keeps "checking for subscription info" but can't find any, cause its never asked me to pay the 50! Was on with Bell for 2 hours today trying to get it but they couldn't help me
