BlackBerry Onyx and Magnum to hit AT&T; BlackBerry Driftwood for T-Mobile?
AT&T’s latest BlackBerry smartphone, the Bold 9000 (currently available for $299.99 on contract), is about five months old now, so you may wonder when new RIM-made devices will come to the giant US carrier.

We can’t say exactly when, but we can say AT&T will be releasing not one, but two BlackBerry smartphones sometime in the future.

According to BGR, the smartphones are codenamed BlackBerry Magnum and BlackBerry Onyx.

The Magnum may be that touchscreen BlackBerry we saw back in October 2008:

It’s said the features of BlackBerry Magnum include:

    GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS connectivity
    480 x 360 pixels display
    Full QWERTY keyboard (obviously)
    GPS
    Wi-Fi
    Camera
BlackBerry Onyx should come with exactly the same features, but probably a different design and without a touchscreen.

Another new and unannounced handset is the BlackBerry Driftwood. And while there’s no image with it, we know its features are similar to the ones of Magnum and Onyx, with the addition of UMA support.

The UMA capability makes BlackBerry Driftwood a good handset for T-Mobile USA and its HotSpot service.

All three mentioned BlackBerries (Magnum, Onyx and Driftwood) are from RIM’s 9000 series – like the Bold – and they all have 3G connectivity.

We’ll bring new details as soon as they emerge

BlackBerry Onyx and Magnum to hit AT&T; BlackBerry Driftwood for T-Mobile? Unwired View

    MORE:

Details of three new BlackBerry handsets have emerged, courtesy of the Boy Genius, all of which are believed to be 9000-series devices. The three smartphones - Onyx, Driftwood and Magnum - are all GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS handsets with GPS, cameras and QWERTY keyboards. The Onyx and Magnum are both confirmed for AT&T, while the Driftwood supports WiFi UMA and as such is predicted for a T-Mobile launch.

According to the source, the Onyx, Driftwood and Magnum aren’t the only new devices coming out of RIM either. A UMA-version of the BlackBerry Bold is tipped, likely for T-Mobile (or possibly Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless), while the BlackBerry Gemini is now believed to not just be a single device but in fact a whole range. However it’s looking likely that the Gemini handsets will replace the Curve, as RIM’s low-cost offerings.

While the specs of the three handsets are believed confirmed, there’s still no definite word on whether RIM will actually release them, nor what sort of timescale we may be talking about. Full details are below:

    BlackBerry Onyx:

    GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS device
    GPS
    Camera
    Wi-Fi (no UMA support)
    QWERTY keyboard
    480360 resolution screen
    Confirmed carriers: AT&T
    BlackBerry Driftwood:

    GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS device
    GPS
    Camera
    Wi-Fi with UMA
    QWERTY keyboard
    BlackBerry Magnum:

    GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS device
    GPS
    Camera
    Wi-Fi (no UMA support)
    QWERTY keyboard
    480360 resolution screen
    Confirmed carriers: AT&T

The 8330 is 3G, I can't speak to whether the other 83XXs are or aren't.

I think it'll go to T-Mo also. Cause AT&T has the 9220 still.

For everyone expecting this to hit T-Mobile in September keep in mind that BGR has a pretty poor track record when predicting BB launch dates.
