Default Poynt updated to 1.0.1.59

Hi folks!

Poynt has been updated to 1.0.1.59 for all 8000 series devices, as well as the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Storm. We will activate the auto-update mechanism later next week.

Until then, we want to give our loyal Poynt users here at CB a heads up because your feedback and support has and will continue to be an integral part of our development process.

You can grab it here: Poynt download for BlackBerry ( m.mypoynt.com )

* PLEASE NOTE* If you have Poynt installed on any other device besides the Storm, you MUST delete the previous version (0.9.7 or below) or you will receive a download failed error.

Here’s the list of changes/improvements:

STORM:

• Fixed no results found errors popping up when a cell-site location was found.
• Improved touch list performance.
• Search speed and data improvements.
• Improved saved locations mechanism
• Allowed search radius as small as 5 km

BOLD/JAVELIN/CURVE/PEARL/FLIP

• Improved UI, re-written from the ground up to increase performance.
• Inertial scrolling on result lists to enhance visual feedback.
• Fixed BB Maps crashing issues.
• Cell-Site GPS - Fast and reasonably accurate initial locates while your GPS chipset is warming up and scanning the sky for true satellite GPS locks.
• Improved GPS speeds. Note to Verizon Customers: Full GPS is still unavailable for these devices, but the new Cell-Site GPS feature is available. It is automatic, so no additional configuration is required.
• Improved network module. Poynt’s network heuristics provide a seamless and fast user experience in a variety of different network scenarios.
• Improved location lookup service (click on the search location bar at the top and select new search location).
• Non-intrusive auto-complete mechanism for typing in previous search terms.
• Add to Calendar feature for movie showtimes
• Improved data storage system to minimize memory footprint on the device.

I love using Poynt. We go to the movies all of the time, so this makes it just that much easier. I'm not trying to compare apples to oranges; but, like WHERE is it possible to incorporate gas prices? I think that would top the cake on this application.

Playin around with it, seems a bit snappier then the older version. Cell site location is accurate so far.

Love this app.

just downloaded it, and it's great! i'm glad that now it senses my nearest cell tower (an issue i have because i'm on verizon and gps isn't enabled - so i always had to enter my zip code... which kind of made the app pointless because there's a chance that if i knew my zip code, i'd probably know a nearby theatre... anyway...)

i admit that i love the movie theatre bit of it, but the business look up is kind of ehh, mostly because i have google maps and i use that app when i need too look something up (but i'm sure this is a feature that others love). i'm gonna echo BrianW2007's request about the gas price bit, because i don't use where (it's just too memory intensive for my phone), so i know i would really appreciate that feature on this app

One option that would really set this program apart, would be the option to get driving directions once you mapped the business that you looked up. For example, if I search "Starbucks" and then choose "map it"; great, I see Starbucks and my current location on the map. BUT that's it; no option for directions.

Hi ninja,

Thanks for pointing this out! If you reboot your phone, it will work. We will fix it so that the icon has a roll over effect after the first install in the next release. Fortunately, you probably won't ever see this again because subsequent updates will require a reboot.
