    You can use the PIN to chat with friends on Blackberry Messanger and you can also use it to send a Peer-to-Peer message. Peer-to-Peer is just like an email.

    Oh and also using Blackberry Messanger uses data not txt. So assuming your data plan is unlimited. Blackberry Messanger is free.

    The PIN is an RIM-issued number that is unique to every BlackBerry and identifies it on RIM's network. Using the PIN, you can send PIN messages, use BlackBerry Messenger to send and receive messages and files, and use it to set up email forwarding to your BlackBerry using BIS or BES.

    PIN = Personal Identification Number

    BBM uses your devices PIN to send messages to another devices PIN... sorta like email and texting yes, but different.

    so to sum it up... you need a data plan for the PIN to work??? since its just like email but sent like texted to the other person, yet not charged as text?

    Ok. I was gonna ask the same Q (I've had mine 3 wks and am totally addicted! LOL), but now I'll add to it since you've all explained PIN- pretty much.

    So it's an instant emailof sorts-
    BUT... Does it only work with/to other BB users/PINs? Or can I PIN to my non-crackberry friends and not get text charged?

    BTW, thanks for the forum! Lots to take in for us newbies!

    Peer to Peer messaging also uses data. Although it looks like a text message, it pulls from your data package.

    Be careful if you decide to try it - it's HEAVILY ADDICTIVE!!! It's nice too because you can give out your PIN and chat with people without having to give anyone your phone number (required for SMS) or email address. have fun!!

    You can find your PIN by going to OPTIONS>STATUS. You can also autotext it into a field by typing mypin
    and hitting the space bar.
