- 4.5.0.81 on 8800, cingular.
Now I need to get Google maps back in there, as the blackberry maps aren't showing up and there is IT policy to prevent 3rd party apps.09-26-08 03:41 AMLike 0 -
- Did the update exactly as noted in the instructions and about 80% of the way through I got a "Fatal Error" message and that was that! It took 4 hours + the assistance of a great T-Mobile Tech to get it back and running again and back on OS 4.2.2.193. I mean this version of OS 4.5 seriously nearly ruined my 8820. The problem is that it wasn't in the constant boot mode.. it was just stuck with a white screen and an static hourglass. It was not a pretty sight!
After we were done saving my 8820 I asked about the upcoming T-Mobile version of OS 4.5. He said that the problem with all these foreign versions is that they are not set to be used with T-Mobiles U.S. UMA functionality. That their are codes in these foreign versions that don't match up with the BBs PIN and it locks up the BB. I don't know about all of that, but it sounds logical to me. The long and short is that he said they were told OS 4.5 for T-Mobiles Wi-Fi enabled BBs would be out by Nov. We'll see!09-26-08 06:53 PMLike 0 - well i followed the info on the site backed up etc used the prog to erase the phone now it wont install the software i just have a 8820 with a small symbol on it i assume it means no operation system. i don't know what else to try the instructions said "3. Disconnect your BB from Desktop Manager
4. Download desired OS to your PC
5. Install/run OS to PC
6. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
7. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.

none of this worked nothing kicks in and i cannot find anything called vendor.xml either...!!!!
anyone have any idea what i need to try now please?
i found the xml but with no change with the rest of it.will it say that the o/s is updating if its working or just sit there?
i see the icon has the number 507 below i suppose that is the error number is it!
i just found out (for anyone like me who didn't know)507 is no o/s code.after you have wiped your blackberry
well the saga continues it just tried to install the o/s and came up with the install box asking if you want to install the o/s ,opera etc. but when you tell it to "and by this time i was a happy camper" you press next and it then comes up with the following error "the application "blackberry 4.5.0 core application" cannot be loaded because some required files are not available....is this becouse of the error 507?Last edited by Radicalrad; 09-28-08 at 05:16 PM. Your sig says that you have a 8800, not a 8820. Installing the wrong OS can "brick" your BB.
But there might be hope, try the following trick:

This way you can recover your dead BB.
Make sure, that you try to install the proper OS, and regarding the proper steps, consult this thread:

These versions that I've linked all have English language, they are multilanguage versions. But even the regional, like East Asia versions have english support besides the regional languages, so if your native language is english, then you can use them. My native language is hungarian, so I need to wait every time for a multilanguage version to be able to use my language's special chars... :P
try one of these:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","orange","0.0.0.0"
or
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","orangewap"
or just call Orange's call center, hopefully they can help.
or with Vodafone, use this:
AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”internet.vodafone.net”09-29-08 04:28 AMLike 0 - I loaded it Friday and it seems to work very well with AT&T. I did notice it was a tad bit quicker than .6909-29-08 07:56 AMLike 0

by the way did you read my other post about the update ...i dont suppose you would know the answer do you?
updated 8820 to new o/s now..........
i updated my 8820 to the latest o/s through my desktop manager and it appears to be working fine.
the problem is that i also have a 8800 which i also use on the same desktop manager obviously but now when i connect my 8800 to the desktop manager it say it has 4.5.0 core applications and a load of other stuff available for my phone even though this is a 8800 and not the 8820 i updated.the obvious question coming is can i allow this to to update my 8800 isn't it the wrong version for this phone? or is it ok to allow it to do this and if so will this make it so i don't have to erase and update myself...Last edited by Radicalrad; 09-29-08 at 08:06 AM.

The USB drivers for the phone are located under the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers folder.09-29-08 08:29 AMLike 0 -
the other one the 8800 only has 4.2.190 on so can that still be allowed to update with this new one? as this is the one the desktop manager is trying to update...
thanks again09-29-08 10:06 AMLike 0 -
