- It seems kind of redundant. We have BB messenger, SMS, email capabilities. Help m,e understand the need for this service. What do you all use it for? I am being sincere in my questions.I like getting on the latest and greatest of trends but I can't seem to wrap my head around this one.01-14-09 03:51 PMLike 0
- Twitter is a place where you can post one short message, and everyone who might be interested can go there and read it, or have it fed to them by various mechanisms. Post-once, read-by-many.
Not everyone has a BlackBerry to use with BBM, and SMS costs an inordinately large amount of money for what it actually costs the telecoms. Is swiftly becoming the chunky, slow, family truckster of the electronic communications world. Teens started ditching e-mail a few years ago when texting and IM became so readily available.
And it's free.
Businesses are using Twitter to coordinate meetings, travel plans, projects, deliver online training supplements, and many other things.
Twitter widgets can be added to other blog sites like LiveJournal, Facebook, Myspace, and others.

20 years ago, I said, "Why on earth would I ever need a phone in my car?" 5 years ago, I thought, "BlackBerries are neat, but I could never justify having my own."
Times change, and technology makes them change faster. Twitter isn't for everyone. I thought it was inane when I first heard of it. But it's been fairly useful and interesting.01-14-09 04:02 PMLike 0 - Adam ZeisCB OGI think its great on multiple levels. A few examples:
While in Vegas for CES, rather than have to BBM multiple people to coordinate our plans, we could simply Twitter our plan or location and that was it. Wait for replies and that's that.
You can use it in addition to or instead of SMS. If you have a large group of friends and are trying to cooridnate plans for the evening, you can simply tweet away and sort it all out - you hit a large group of people instantly.
Businesses (take @zappos who actually has a how-to and list of employees who Twitter at twitter.zappos.com) use it to bring employees together, spread news etc.
So like rrrebo said, its not for everyone, but can be a great tool. Most know I'm a big fan of Twitter and try to spread the love as much as I can. The "don't knock it til ya tried it" approach is it. I got my girlfriend into it only a week ago - before then she had not a clue what it was - and now she uses it everyday. So give it a shot, meet some people, see if you like it - you've got nothing to lose.01-14-09 05:22 PMLike 0 - I thought Twitter was really dumb at first, but now that I actually have it, I like it a lot.
I always feel with BBM, people expect me to reply immediately and most times, I can't. With twitter, I don't feel that I'm expected to reply at the very next second. Thats just me though.01-14-09 06:45 PMLike 0 - ChrisySeeker of the Wayi tried twitter for a little while. i think it's a neat idea and i used it to keep up to date with friends and family around the country.
In the end i deleted it because it felt very impersonal to stay in touch by writing little blogs.
Perhaps my life is just uneventful
i also felt hassled a bit and felt that i should be updating it at least once a day. But...like myspace...it became more of a chore.
i'll stick to BBM, text, IM, email. Phone. That's enough! Ha
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com01-14-09 07:00 PMLike 0 - I resisted "social networking" as pointless. A family member recently talked a bunch of our rather large extended family into hooking up on facebook, and that's worked out pretty well. Twitter seems to me to be essentially a very limited version of one of the features of FB (the status message).

- I use it, I have lots of coversations with various people that they dont want known by the "sig. others". Hopping onto twitter from the net is pretty easy for them (though, i also get messages from FB/MS/bbm/text/email). Its just one more little thing for some of the anon people to message me a little more anonymously.
But its kind of fun anyway, I put various status' up there just because i can, let the people know what i'm up to. Saves the time of "hey, what are you doing" "...read my twitter dingleberry"01-15-09 01:06 PMLike 0 - Well, If you do choose to use Twitter, this might be helpful...
I use TwitterBerry (Orangatame Software) to update my status.
Set up a TwitPic account (TwitPic / Share photos on Twitter), email an image to your twitpic email with a subject, and that gets posted to Twitter.
Added the Twitter app to Facebook (Twitter | Facebook) so that my Facebook status will be whatever my Twitter is saying.
Might also want to check out SocialScope (SocialScope), I got an Alpha version of it and it looks like it has potential to be better than TwitterBerry01-15-09 01:25 PMLike 0 - <a href="http://s406.photobucket.com/albums/pp146/bberryaddicted/?action=view¤t=utf-8BSU1HMDAwMTkuanBn.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp146/bberryaddicted/utf-8BSU1HMDAwMTkuanBn.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

- Twitter seems to be a fun app. I loaded it, then found out that it will not work in Europe. Guess the cost of SMS would be too much.
Ended up deleting Twitter.01-21-09 06:23 AMLike 0 - Tre LawrenceBetween RealitiesTwitter is a place where you can post one short message, and everyone who might be interested can go there and read it, or have it fed to them by various mechanisms. Post-once, read-by-many.

I think it points towards a shift in interactions... it allows for measured exposure. Networking is a key concept in our world today, and Twitter facilitates that.01-28-09 07:18 AMLike 0 - 01-28-09 07:45 AMLike 0

- DuviRetired ModeratorAzeis said it perfectly... I was one to think it was pointless until I got to use it. It will also be pointless until you understand it more and find reasons to use it.
It's another way to let others know how you feel and what you're doing without actually having to give your email, pin or phone # out. It's as easy to block them as anything.01-28-09 08:33 AMLike 0
