OK so now I got really really annoyed by that shutter-sound ... !

I just wrote a small application that lets you mute the shutter-sound! Wow I didn't think that it would be that easy!

Now the shutter sound is neeeearly muted, you just hear it if you press your ear agains the speaker. :-)
    Anyone interested?

OK so now I was a busy bee, I coded a small app that lets you mute the shutter sound of the camera.

It's not yet availible; it's gonna be FREE:

Be careful; some countries have laws that forbid muting the shutter sound on digital cameras.

rrrebo doesn't think that its a good idea...!

Well not until I get more information about that "No-Shutter-Sound-In-Some-Countrys" I will not release it... sorry for that.
But I must admit, I love the app !

I figured this was the reason why my BB doesn't have an option to hush the shutter sound. But it's just such a ball buster when I'm trying to take blog-worthy pictures of myself at my desk at work.

All is silent on the office front, until you hear a *shutter* sound coming from Goldie's cube. Not cool.

I can live with the shutter sound, though, considering I was once taking a nap on a train and woke up to some ********* taking a picture of me in my skirt (legs crossed, nothing exposed except a little knee-action ... maybe he had a knee fetish?).

Seriously please release it. It is not illegal in the US or UK. Its funny to take funny pictures of your friends when they least suspect it. Plus, on the newer devices the video recorder doesn't have any sound anyway so having a camera sound isn't really going to prevent anyone who wants to be devious.

Yeah I would release it but how do I know that the person using it is in the US or UK?
I don't wanna get into trouble through this!
Does anyone have trustworthy information on this issue?

I thought it was a joke at first, but apparently it's not.

This was the first time I'd read a sensible reason for RIM not giving us the option to mute the sound, so a little googling on "camera shutter sound illegal country law" led me to this 2004 NetworkWorld article and a bunch of other forum posts. From what I read there, Korea and Saudi Arabia have very strict laws on the topic and the UK has some looser restrictions on "unauthorized" picture taking. I'm sure other countries are similar.

If you put a disclaimer on it aren't you safe? Illegal in some countries - use at your own risk?
