In some pictures, I've noticed its clear but with a hint of purple. There is something (I'm guessing light) that it uses to sense touch? not sure how it all works but it's def clear and needs to "see" whats going on.
any idea why this seems only to be on the bold 9650 trackpad and not 9700?
Someone posted a link to the technology and there is an led/light of some kind in the sensing mechanism.
As for why the translucent purple is not found on the older trackpads, I have no idea but I hope that RIM has not pulled another Tour-design change that affects the Bold's performance, longevity. That is, on the Tour, they moved the trackball interior to the unit blowing any easy maintenance. Here, I hope that the change of surface or surface material on the trackpad did not jeopardize the tried and true method of the earlier trackpads. As is some folks have complained about the trackpad "peeling" Not good.
I think thats just how the track pad for the 9650 was made, soon enough there will be colored replacement ones you can buy, ive already seen some out but only for the 9700.
When I'm in the light my Bolds track pad looks purple almost pink is this normal?
Its purple cause its trAnsparent to infrared light, like the end of the remote control. If you hold it in direct sunlight you can see through it and see the sensor and transmitter. It appears its more like a laser mouse rather than a touch sensor. Which I think Is good.
