- i paid the $15 for doc to go because i have to do alot of Homework on the go and i do some blogging.
i've already written to dataviz Customer Service about this question and they pointed me to blackberry forums. (not a particular one) they just said contact blackberry.
well my question is.
why cant i use special symbols in dataviz. or better yet how do i use them.
like accented vowels and upside down "?, !"
i can use them in my memo pad but in word dock my "SYM" button does nothing
and when i hold the letter i want and scroll the touch pad i get no symbols either.
any suggestions.03-08-11 02:39 PMLike 0 - Pete6Retired ModeratorI too paid for Docs To Go Premium.
I just tried using symbols in Word and when I pressed the Sym key within Word, up came the symbol panel. I was able to insert any symbol I wished.
As a work around I also tried inserting symbols into MemoPad. These I copied and then Pasted them into Word. Again this worked fine.
I am running Docs To Go version 2 and OS6 on my 9700.
In my opinion, this should be working on your phone if you are running the same software versions as me.03-08-11 03:08 PMLike 0 -
i have OS6 too. with version 2.0005 (096)

I am wondering if you should not try and uodate your Docs To Go product via Menu Check for Updates.
This is a real puzzle. It should be working.
btw: the MemoPad Copy / Past trick works best if you copy a string of yor special characters into the Word doc and then Copy / Paste them from then on withing Word To Go. However this is a work around and not a solution to your problem.
Trouble is, I'm stuck.03-08-11 03:43 PMLike 0 - I'm running Docs To Go version 2.0005 (105) and OS6 .461

yea i'm have to do it like that or write the whole thing in memo pad then paste it to word doc.
i dont think ive ever updated it. i downloaded it paid it and since the beginning i've had issues. i tried talking to dataviz but they seem to think it was a blackberry issue. so i gave up with them. is there a way to downgrade?03-08-11 03:53 PMLike 0 - Pete6Retired Moderatoryea i'm have to do it like that or write the whole thing in memo pad then paste it to word doc.

I think that upgrading is the way to go. However you need to be comfortable with doing this. Docs To Go wil be and easy upgrade to do, thhe OS however is slightly more complicated but noetheless works well.
Help will always be available here if you decide to upgrade the OS. There are anumber of very good guides on this subject within CrackBerry.03-08-11 04:35 PMLike 0 - Not sure about downgrading but there is a way to upgrade. I seem to be running a slightly later version of Docs To Go than you and I am sure that I will be running a later version of the BlackBerry Operating System (OS).

I think that this is the way to go first off. Obviously it is you who decides.
The reason I say this is that it works on my phone.Delirious D likes this.03-08-11 05:23 PMLike 1 - I don't see downgrading as the answer here. I am running a slightly later version of DocsToGo than you so I'd reccomend using the dataviz product update procedure from within their product. Just press Menu and then select Check for Updates and follow the prompts.

so later means newer lol03-08-11 06:25 PMLike 0 - I had major issues trying to get mine to simply update from 2000.4 to 2000.5. Kept saying no update available paid or otherwise. Showed my device as the Storm. I do have the paid version. I found the OTA download links if anyone needs them. These are for OS6.

It would not surprise me to find that this fixes your problem.
If it does not, then your only other choice will be to upgrade (update - it's that word again...) the phone's Operating System. The latest verion of this is available here http://forums.crackberry.com/f95/965...-443-a-587067/.
To update the IS, you need to download the OS file from the link to your PC and install it as an application on the PC.
You need to delete one file from the OS installation and it is called Vendor.xml and may be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. I am running Wondows 7 64 bit so have listed the folder for that.
You must have the BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed and working on your PC as well.
Once this is done, you simply connect your phone to the PC and run Desktop Manager and click the Application Loader button. The rest is largely automatic and will take about 40 minutes to complete. During this time you must not disconnect your phone from the PC.
There are lods of guiodes on CrakBerry to help you upgrade but I have giveen you the absolute simplest way of doing it. Many, many people do these updates regularly and there will be much help available here if you just ask.
About the only thing that I would counsel is to do a Backup using Desktop Manager before you start the OS update. The update process does a Backup as a part of the uopdate procedure but since this is the fist time you are trying this, I feel that safeguarding your precious personal data is a reasonable extra step.Delirious D likes this.03-09-11 03:32 AMLike 1 - i had a scare last night i had to wipe my phone it kept randomly tuning off so i wiped it with bbsak as i've done often but then none of the installed OS recognized my phone. so i thought well let me restart my comp since its freezing up too. start>shut down>restart.
OMG then my laptop wouldnt load windows. it would stay on a black screen, i was so freaked out. no laptop no blackberry its the end of the world. finally the millennium blackout caught up. whats even CREEPIER is AT THE SAME time my bf was flashing his samsung epic (ota) and that was giving him issues too.
after much patience on his end (i was freaking out) he fixed my laptop and i fixed my phone. and i uploaded the leaked version above and i will be downloading the updates also.Last edited by BBM.Duchess; 03-09-11 at 11:04 AM. Reason: spell check

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP I THINK I JUST HAVE A CORRODED PHONE. i still love my blackberry03-09-11 11:08 AMLike 0 - I've read this thread with interest because I use Word to Go a lot and special characters and the SYM key are important tools. I finally upgraded to Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9650/6.0.0.431 and downloaded all the D2G suite including Files and PDF 2.00005 (105). Unfortunately I am oone of those where the SYM key and special characters do not work in Word to Go. Hoping ny now someone has solved the problem or has some ideas.
Edit: I am on an IT-supported BES device so upgrading to a non-carrier supported hybrid OS or other carrier's OS is not an option for me.
