9700 Wifi constantly drops then reconnects
- BrantaRetired Network ModThe evidence is gathering steadily. It is starting to sound like a hardware problem, you just need to make it conclusive so T-Mo can't argue.
There is no way to know the relative sensitivity to interference. However 802.11b (10 megabit) should be more tolerant than 802.11g (54 megabit). The adjacent networks at -80dBm should be well below your signal, so that only leaves non-wifi noise as a contender.
The PING test is still worth doing, because it provides solid technical evidence and a good indication of timing. When you wake in the morning you have a file which shows how many failures, how long before they recovered without human influence, random or regular... There's a rule that says repeatable or regular is software, totally random is hardware.
It would still be worth testing with another wifi if possible in a different location. That would eliminate local enviromental factors like interference, and/or a problem with the router not liking the BB handling of the network protocols.01-02-11 06:34 PMLike 0 - Print out this thread and take it to TMO. What more proof do you want to show that it's hardware related.01-02-11 06:47 PMLike 0
- ok-- so I went to set up the ping
no sim in phone, mobile radio off, connected to wifi [and browser working]
went into manage connections, shows SSID and network connected but
local IP address is blank
status IP address no longer valid
no DNS, gateway info etc
but I have an active wifi connection, that is 100% working.
I turned wifi off/back on, still no IP
deleted the profile. set up a new one, still no IP
but I am connected to wifi again and browsing. [so I must have an IP]
I do know the BB IP, from the router, so I ping that IP and it just times out
I delete the BB IP from the router, turn the BB wifi off/on, get a new IP. still doesnt ping or show in BB manage connections. I set the [static] IP on the BB, still doesnt ping.
I check the cmd ping with the thinkpad wireless IP and it works.
curiouser and curiouser
I'll put the SIM back in now and see if that makes a difference.
SIM in, mobile radio off/UMA off, wifi connected and BIS[white wifi], able to browse and now shows IP address, DNS etc in manage connections.
its the exact same IP as with no SIM, BUT the BB now pings!?
but it drops connections with/without a SIM, so this is just another quirk/red herring!
ok, I am now auto pinging the bb, but I cant set the txt file up. where does it write the txt file to?
Thanks

@OP it seems as if you have a physical problem with your device. Bring it in to a tmo shop and have them look at it? If you've tried all the above that you've mentioned, tmo shouldn't be too picky about replacing your device01-02-11 09:06 PMLike 0 - here below is the BB [filtered] log from around the time of a wifi disconnect. hope this sheds some light on things. Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com01-03-11 10:26 PMLike 0 - I used to have a lot of wifi problems between my 9700 and 2wire router/dsl. Turned out that 2wire was overheated because I put the unit directly on the carpet, and the overheating messed up the router's wifi functionality. Now I put the 2wire on top of a cardbox and I no longer have 9700 wifi issue after a hard reset.01-17-11 05:32 PMLike 0
