So it seems that xliderider was right in saying that they are refering to it as the Atlas, but they keep saying "Tour with wifi" so I figured that it wouldnt be anything dramatically upgraded, obviously early to tell anything for sure:

[Reply] Is the upcoming wi-fi BB going to be a global phone? If not, that would be a deal breaker for me.
rogo22 10:10 PM 07-29-2009 --
[Reply] Well if it really is just a tour with wifi, i would assume its global. unless the atlas is a totally different device and an update to a non-global phone. another curve update or something?

[Reply] 85** series = no GPS
At least from what I've read so far.
Chris2183 10:17 PM 07-29-2009 --
[Reply] You should totally take it back and wait for wifi You are obviously not going to be happy with your phone since one with wifi is coming, so save your discounts and your NE2 and wait.
Wifi is a non-issue for me so Im not mad about it.

What are you gonna do about it?
So your mad because you made an uninformed decision and didn't buy what you really wanted? Even though what your asking for isn't out yet.
Sounds a little child like.
For example.
My daughters mad

:-) because when she bought cotton candy they only had cherry flavour and now the cotton candy people will have (at a later date) grape flavour as well.
I don't know, I guess I'm missing something.

[Reply] This is probably a stupid question but why does one need wifi on the tour? I have a Treo 755p and I connect to the internet quite nicely and can surf anywhere.

I dont think the one thats coming next year will be lower end device than the tour. (unless the 8530 does come out) Otherwise, why do all the articles say its and updated version of the tour having wifi?
YaBoiD: yeah I think no GPS is a pretty big thing to lack even on a low end device. Especially being targeted towards more consumer users than business, having the dedicated media keys and all, its seems like they would have the GPS on there if only to help with advertising. Like how the palm pre shows google maps, iphone shows google maps, WM shows Windows live search in commercials.
whodathunkit: For a lot of people its connectivity. I've been in buildings that have bad/1x reception, but would have wifi. Or in the home if you want to look up something real quick/ or have spotty reception and just want to have a constant on and reliable connection.

[Reply] Is the 8530 going to even be 3G? Wifi isn't worth a lower end phone for me. It seems to have the same style of keys as the Curve. I don't know about you, but I love the Tour's keyboard. I also love the HIGH res. screen. The 8530 won't be as high res as the Tour's. Like it's been said, there will ALWAYS be a new Berry just around the corner.
I love my Tour and plan on sticking with it for a while.

There are three groups of people involved with wifi controversy
1: Those with a legitimate need for wifi such as being inside a building that degrades reception and still needing access to the web. Or those who travel and need it on a plane.
2: Those who are unaffected by the lack of wifi and dont believe wifi is any better than 3g
3: Those who seem to think that wifi is absolutely everywhere and that VZW is a big meany pants company that is out to deprive them of it.
I dont judge anyone for feeling the way they do, but its an argument that will never be resolved till theres wifi in built into every phone on the market
