Note: This is my 3rd Tour and with the exception of the Browser speed, it runs like a champ. All 3 I've owned have had very slow Internet.

While I show 4-5 bars, my browsing speed is frustrating and is about 5 times slower than what my wife gets on her Curve (Curve gets close to 2000 kbits and my Tour gets 400 on a good day).

    I have :

    -javascript disabled.
-Wiped and reinstalled OS .57 (I'm on Sprint)
    -Re-provisioned
    -updated the PRL
-Made sure the cache is clean.
    -Yes...sim card is removed
-Mobile network is set to 1XEV and that is what my phone shows most of the time.

I'm running the stock browser. Opera Mini was faster BUT, I was unable to type in any fields or get secondary links.

Another note....when tethered with Pdanet, my laptop works great which makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

    Your Thoughts?

The most likely reason would be that the tour OS is young vs curves' OS. Most importantly the browser application which I also find very annoying.
At 4-5bars, my tour seats there saying "requesting" for a very long time until it eventually loads the site. The OS or the browser needs more work!

First of all, I did not know you could use pdanet with blackberry. With that in mind, this proves that pdanet acts as a proxy, completely avoiding the browser app, redirecting your connection to the network. Hence the reason its fast via pdanet. Try the application speedtest see what you get in your speeds. At 3bars, I get Down:251.93 Kbits/s, Up:210.08Kbits/s

Whenever I get a chance, I will test a friends sprint curve vs my tour.

Try installing the 5.0.0.230 beta. I get about 2000kb/s vs. 250kb/s on my curve.

With 3 bars here out by the water (spotty reception) I get ~2500kb/s on my Tour with OS 5.0.0.238

Use 5.0.0.230 I think it is awesome. Once you see threaded sms though, you probably won't be able to go back

For some reason the search function isn't working for me.

Could someone send the link if you have it to the instructions for installing .230?

I'll keep trying the search but thanks in advance if you can provide it

    Thanks Pinpoint...greatly appreciated

I use SprintNav all of the time, but I did see a couple threads the other day with work arounds?

Hmmmmmmmmm...GPS would be more important than browsing speed at the moment.

I would download irtehun's hybrid though and shrink the os while you are at it.

Yeah, the latest facebook and BBM work. Pretty much all of my apps work except for Shazam (5.0.0.230 has an issue that prevents Shazam from setting up correctly).

I use oneweb mobile internet, widgets, web 2.0, video, personalized, fast it makes BlackBerry's native browser faster on most sites and its real easy to do Twitter, Facebook and other stuff.

I just reboot my phone about once a week and clear my caches to keep my browser running smooth.
