Default We are now in the Touchscreen phone era...

Whats next? What do you think the next big phone technological breakthrough will be? And who do you think (apple, RIM, windows) will come up with it? Finger print scanners? Face recognition?

LG's GD900 with (multi-touch?) transparent keypad gets S-Class UI

oh and lets not forget LG will release a touchscreen watch phone (true **** tracy style!!) by the end of 09, obviously this wouldnt work with a bb as the keypad will be a bit on the small size!!

also little off topic, but vodafone now have their own version of google lattitude, which works through your phonebook, very classy.

Old........there have been windows smartphones with fingerprint scanners in the last couple years. One of the new LG dumbphones on Verizon has smile recognition.

DURHAM, N.C., June 16 (UPI) -- U.S. engineers have created a technology that allows a person to write a note in the air with their cell phone and send the message to an e-mail address.

Duke University engineering researchers said their invention is designed for people who have their hands full of items -- briefcase, laptop, a coat or luggage -- who need to make a note, but don't want to stop and put down all of the items they're carrying.

The technology makes use of the accelerometers in cell phones -- devices that not only keep track of the phone's movements, but make it possible for display screens to rotate from landscape to portrait modes depending on how the phone is moved.

"By holding the phone like a pen, you can write short messages or draw simple diagrams in the air," computer engineering student said Sandip Agrawal, who, with Duke graduate student Ionut Constandache, developed the PhonePoint Pen.

"The accelerometer converts the gestures to images, which can be sent to any e-mail address for future reference," Constandache added. "The potential uses are practically limitless."

The prototype is expected to be available for download within the next few months.

saw a flip phone, but it was all touch screen, when you opened it it was completely flat and all one screen... was on engadgetmobile forget when though. looked pretty awesome. I think the next major thing to be "updated" will be the battery, hasnt really changed in a while

This is my opinion and in no way reflects the opinion of Verizon Wireless or its affiliates, or any other company or business. Do not consider talking to me a substitute to actually talking to a CS representitive. I find it very pathetic that we should have to put these disclaimers in our signature.

hmmm...so the way cell phones utilize a batter. You are right. Alot of power equipment is outdated..powerlines, batteries, etc. I wonder why?

A little while back i read on Phone Arena there was a battery in one of the development stages that could recharge in a matter of seconds.... But unless they could make it last at least 10 hours i dont see any chances of that ever hitting the market
