I called yesterday and it was a breeze. CS asked what I wanted... why I wanted it and what I didn't like about my current phone. It was $199 for the DROID and the rebate was instant. $12.50 for taxes and I've got a DROID on it's way for ~200 bucks. $35 restocking fee to return the device if I don't like it. Shipping was free and CS was more than happy to explain everything to me.
Granted I took the offer to get the DROID but if you're interested in the S2 I'd imagine it should be just as easy. As a matter of fact when the CS answered the phone first thing he asked was if I had received an E-mail regarding a special upgrade..... "Yes sir... let's get rolling"....

I just got my letter in the mail, and I need some advice. I know that things with technology are usually a matter of opinion, but I'm new to the blackberry game so I have no basis for comparison.
THe Storm is my first BB. While I like it a lot, I would love a phone that I don't have to tinker with everyday and pull the battery every other just to make it work right. I also depend heavily on having my emails delivered to me dependably. Is the Droid capable of working well with my work and Yahoo email addresses, or am I going to have switch to Google?
And if I go with the S2, am I really getting an upgrade? In other words, will the addition of wifi and more memory really warrant $179, or will I be underwhelmed?
Again, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I just didn't want to be crucified for being a noob making a new thread.

And as for the upgrade offer, I had to call VZW today about something else and I asked the woman about the offer I received in the mail. You GOTTA love VZW reps...she said "your price would be the one year upgrade price of $249 after the mail in rebate." So I asked her why I received a mailer that said I could get it for $179 and she said "the $179 is the price you will pay if you wait until July 2010 to purchase it" LOL, by July the S2 will be $49.99 with BOGO lady! LOL! I wasn't planning on getting one today anyway (or maybe ever), but since I was on the phone with her anyway I figured I'd test her. That wasn't the only thing she was wrong about though...

To apologize for the first $200 unusable-phone-until-newer-OS-arrives-a-year-later, they give you another $200 phone that is still filled with bugs, albeit less severe. With the same useless web browser. Same turn-to-side-and-keyboard-stays-in-portrait nonsense.
Yeah. Apology.
F that.

l.a.rossmann, you also have the choice of a Droid, which I took...$20 more.
Can you say happy? YES.

That wasn't the only thing she was wrong about though... | I appreciate the help. I actually went in to my local VZW to check out my options, and I have to say that I left a little confused. First off, my initial reaction to the touch of the S2 was laughable. I know its been said too many times, but the push really does feel like a potato chip being crunched. Maybe an S2 owner gets used to that, but I much preferred my S1 touch.
Secondly, I really liked the Droid, but I think I liked it because it wasn't a BB OS. Android is a great OS, but I found the Droid to be shaped a little awkwardly and I could type on the hard keypad any faster than on my S1. Overall, I think the best bet is to wait, and I think Verizon knows it and thats why were getting this deal now.
Personally, I think I'll be waiting for the Essex.
