Important information re: Storm 2/OS 5.0 compatibility

Hey all,

Here's the game plan, and it may be a bit disappointing but hopefully you can all understand where I'm coming from.

AppleBerry Dark has 30 different versions, these all require an import into the new software, an update with all the changes required to make them compatible with 5.0, testing, uploading, and distribution. After spending some time updating the original suite, I've come to realize that it's going to be an absolutely monumental amount of work to update Dark.

Before you start pulling your hair out, I'm not dropping Dark. =P

I want to make it compatible with the Storm 2 and OS 5.0 on the Storm 1 at the same time, so that I can continue to develop Dark for other devices and build out the Suite. The problem is, updating for Storm 1 5.0 compatibility and then updating once more for Storm 2 compatibility is silly, and since RIM has yet to post a Storm 2 simulator online, and since the Storm 2 is not yet available in Canada, I'm sort of at a standstill here.

On top of that, it's perfectly realistic to assume that RIM will issue an OS update for both devices that will remove the landscape mode bug. Since changing your homescreen layout and changing it back removes the landscape bug, it's pretty much a guarantee that such a fix is waiting in the wings at RIM.

So here's the game plan:

I'm going to wait and see what RIM's next move is with regards to this, if the next OS update fixes the problem, then all is well and good, I will update the theme accordingly for the Storm 2 and move on. If the next OS update does not fix the problem, I will begin updating each individual version as originally planned, and issue the update.

I know this may sound like a huge cop-out, but if I spent 50+ hours updating the entire Dark suite just to have RIM come along and fix the problem with a simple OS update, I would be devastated. I'm in my last semester of University, in a very difficult program, and I have 4 weeks remaining, so it's crunch time and I need all the time I can get.

I appreciate your patience and understanding, and I promise I'll have Dark up and running, and Storm 2 compatible as soon as I can. I'm not, nor have I ever guaranteed OS 5.0 compatibility on MobiHand, but I know people expect it, and I think that's fair. Dark is the only theme I use and so I'm just as anxious as everybody to get an update out. (=

It's still "AppleBerry" at heart. I may introduce something new on the homescreen, but I'm torn. Nobody wanted me to remove Stacks, so what else could I add to give it some additional functionality?

Obviously another sliding set of icons is a possibility, but is it necessary? I'm trying to find that balance between performance/features.

I have one core feature that I'm still developing on the homescreen, which is why I was hesitant to show it off this early. If the Storm can keep up with it, I'll implement it. I won't say what it is until I know it works though. (=

It depends on how many variations I decide to include. This will be a suite just like the last version of AppleBerry, so you can expect a variety of styles to choose from.

It will be good value though, and naturally will include the necessary amount of updates until I get it just right. (=

I'm loving it hastings... This theme already looks amazing. I'm liking the circles under the icons. Great contrast in the colors as well.

Possible suggestions for additional features:

A small widget button that either launches quicklaunch or some "dashboard" icons that you can quickly access things like media, camera, and other utilities

Magnification of the selected icon

Just some ideas. Keep up the great work
