¡Hola! Crackberry. This is my second app review. After revisiting my review
for Score Mobile I realized it was a sort of slapdash so this time I
really did try to put in some greater effort.
Today, I am reviewing
eMobile Email. I have almost the entire eMobile
suite but discovered this about 2 weeks ago and I will NEVER own a
BlackBerry without it.
One caveat though: I no longer have the 8100 and 8310 as spares so
I could only review this on the 8900. It is listed to work on all models
from the 87xx series up
Installation:
Installation is pretty straightforward and very fast. 45 seconds or less.
Not much to talk about here.
Initial Impressions:
From the very second I opened this app I knew it was a winner. This
app will change the way you interface with your email forever.
Let's get started, shall we?:
Once the application is installed you will be presented with a launch icon.
I have moved mine to the home screen. It will also display your unread
email count.
Upon launching the app you will see your email in list view, in a very tiny
font (this can be changed. We'll get to that in a second)
Across the top are three tabs. It will by default sort your email by date,
but with a roll of the trackball to the left (or whatever the Stormies do)
you can change the "sort by" from Date to Subject or to Sender (From)
If you press menu and then settings you will have the option to toggle
the Email Preview off or on, Display Images in Emails, Set as Default Viewer.
You can also set whether your default view is a List or a List and Preview, change
your Font Face and Font Size (I set it to 25) as well as set the Background and Link Color.
Diving Deeper:
Here is where this app excels. The BB is accepted as the preeminent Email
device despite having some glaring holes. These holes have meant until now
we needed a hodgepodge of third party apps to do the simplest things. No longer.
Folders:
Create unlimited custom category folders
Templates:
If you find yourself sending the same emails constantly, this is for you
You can even email via the template. SPECIAL!!
List or List and Preview:
This is a pretty slick feature for those used to seeing email on a computer.
I must admit though, I have not figured out how to expand the List part
and decrease the preview part.
Add To Calendar:
Say you get an email with a meeting date and time. Simply
press menu > scroll to Add To Calendar and enter the info.
Add To Tasks:
Now say you get an email with an actionable task. Rather
the going thru the default email client kibuki dance, you
again press menu > scroll to Add To Task and be done with it.
There are two glaring shortcomings of this app and they are:
1) You cannot scroll and highlight a group of emails to delete.
2) None of the shortcuts of the native email client work.
I am totally OK with this.
Final Impressions:
Even at it's cost of $24.95, it is well worth it to have everything you need to
process you email in one app that has a surprisingly small footprint.
I know I missed some things but this is what I got after 2 weeks.
I'll update this thread for anything new (good or bad) that I find
Pros:
Functionality
One app for almost everything, instead of many 3rd party solutions
Does exactly what it promises and does it very well.
Customizable to fit any type of user.
Cons:
Might be cost prohibitive for some.
No scroll to highlight and delete en masse.
Does not mimic default email client keystrokes.
List & Preview could be more intuitive (this might be me though)
