Default Transparent images

I've been looking all over the place... I'm trying to make a custom theme with Plazmic, and I've almost got the hang of it, but I don't know how to a transparent underlay image for the highlighted application on the home screen. I've looked through the user manual and tried to look through the gimp user manual (that thing's rough), and I must be overlooking it or something. Could somebody please tell me how to make a transparent underlay image for the home screen icons? Many many thanks in advance.

hi there, all you need to do, is open up an the file labelled `icon.png` in the icons folder of your theme, and either change to 100% opacity, or just use the eraser and erase all the image from the screen, then just save as a .png

the other way is hit `new` and then set to the right pixel size, with a clear background, then hit save and save as .png file

hope this works for ya

Well, it sounds like it makes some sense... I'm going to give it a try. I'll let you know if it works for me. Thank you for taking your time.

Could be wrong but it almost seems like you'd want some degree of opacity in order to give the impression you're looking through something. If it were 100% transparent wouldn't it actually be invisible? I haven't tried it at 100%, maybe it does work.

Default Tesla - Master of Lightning

If you can spring for $100, do yourself a favor and get a copy of PSE-7: it can easily create and deal with transparency. Here are some screen shots of my latest work on my personal theme Zen Tesla, which heavily involves transparency. Invisible are Device Application Order icons to my control folder called The CON, as in "You got The CON", and to the Verizon Navigator.

Nikola Tesla, called the Master of Lightning by PBS, was indeed a man before his time. Actually he almost single-handedly was responsible for the electrification of the world with his inventions surrounding alternating currents. The United States Congress posthumously awarded him the patent as the inventor of the radio. Some of his experiments during his Colorado sojourn on lightning really frighten his neighbors.

I think translucent is more the desire. And by the way Dr N, nice work on getting the button text to stand out.

You nailed it.

Sorry I wasnt paying atttention to this tread sooner, but you can actually make Transparent PNGs in composer, and they will have a smaller files size than that of photoshop.

Just make a new project and size the canvas the size you want the PNG to be, select transparent background, then export to PNG.

Then close it, go back to your project and load your transparent PNG.

Enjoy,
WeldMonkey
