Question Email inboxes in custom theme

Hi,

I am working on a custom theme for the Bold and have a question regarding email inboxes. I created some icons and arranged them the way I want in Plazmic Composer. I would like to display two email inboxes (from 2 different BIS accounts) on my homescreen. So I put 2 mail icons in the Composer project and set them both to launch "Default Inbox" on activation. I added the SVG file to Theme Builder, but after installing the theme on my Blackberry, neither mail button goes to an inbox. All of the other buttons I included (i.e. contacts, calendar and SMS) work and launch the proper applications. But the mail buttons do nothing. Again, I am hoping to put 2 email inboxes on my homescreen in a custom theme. Is this possible? Can anyone help with this? I am very new to Plazmic.

Thanks in advance.

hi there, composer does have some issues, but what id reccomend, is to set the icons in composer as device app order, then it will follow whatever`s set in the menu, much like the standard screens you get on standard themes, also that way, users who download your theme get to choose what they want

BBgirl,
How many icons are u looking to put on the homescreen? Do you want anything other than icons on the homescreen? Finally, do you want an exact pattern of some sort?

Hi iowabowtech,

I would like to put 6 icons on the homescreen, two of which are inboxes for 2 different email accounts. I just want them lined up at the bottom of the screen in the following order: Addressbook, SMS/MMS inbox, Email Inbox 1, Email Inbox 2, Calendar and Apps folder. But I can't seem to get my email accounts linked up with the icons in the custom theme. Any idea what I'm missing?

Thanks.

Thanks daveastra.
I tried setting the buttons to launch according to the device application order and that solved the 2-inboxes-on-the-homscreen issue. But for some strange reason, only the default bold icons show up when I install the theme. I changed all of the icons in Composer to custom ones that I made, but when I install the theme they all seem to change back to the regular bb icons... Does anyone know why that is/how I can fix it?

BBgirl,
I have a much simpler solution for your needs. Start a new custom theme in Theme Builder or if you've already changed all your icons in TB, just pick up from where you left off but forget about Composer for this one. Instead, on the "theme the homescreen" page, add 6 zen icons. Does NOT matter what they are, just use the first 6 that come up. Now, select "use device application order" (or similar verbage) for each icon. Now where the icons are listed, change them to look like whatever you want. Then you can move the icons around to place them where you want. Keep them in order so the scrolling doesn't have issues.

Now, when you're all done and load it into your phone, you'll be able to move any icon in your arsenal up to those 6 slots as you desire and you can change them as often as you want. On the app screen, just select move...and move the ones you want on your homepage to the uppermost row. Simple as that. If you have any questions, PM me.

Thanks iowabowtech. I Appreciate your help.

I tried the method you suggested, but there's one problem -- if I change the homescreen icons in TB, they also change the corresponding icon in the Applications screen (which I don't want). Ideally I would like a specific set of icons on the homescreen and a different set on the Apps screen. I thought Composer would be the best way to achieve that, but it's proving to be very difficult. I did manage to finally get my inboxes to show up on the homescreen (by using the "Device App Order" option in Composer), but now I can't get my custom icons to appear. I added all my icon images in Composer, exported the SVG file and when I install the theme none of those icons show up. Only the default BB icons show up. Do you know why that's happening? I'm using Plazmic 4.7 and BB Bold.

Thanks again for all your help.

Ahhh, a perfectionist! Not sure right off hand why your images aren't coming through as the icon. Maybe Dave will chime in with a plan as I avoid Composer as much as possible.

Out of curiosity though, did you use the "theme button" option in Composer or other?

Sorry, not sure what the "theme button" option is. Where would I find that?

It is one of the selections you can make when building in Composer. One of the little diagrams located just to the left of the work area when you open the program.

Oh yes, I did use that to create the buttons initially. And then I just changed the image using the "Change bitmap" option in the Edit mode.

I suspect the problem of not displaying the custom icons has something to do with the "Use Device Application Order" option because when I don't have that option selected the icons show up on the Blackberry. It's only after I select Device App Order that the icons switch back to the default ones. I'm puzzled...

this is an old thread. but its most relative that ive found to my question.

is there any work around for Default Inbox and SMS links from Composer. my theme requires them to be launched from a custom button in the SVG. but they do nothing. i know theres an issue with plazmic about this. but is there a work around? i tried using what i thought would be the module name for both. but maybe i picked the wrong one.
