you should always backup your phone through DM. if you save contacts to a sim and lose your phone you lose you sim too, with contacts. if you back up on DM it backs up everything, ringtones, profiles, contacts, calender etc. I back up every two weeks.
Excuse my newbie ignorance, but I was wondering if the original poster was not just trying to use the SIM card for backup. Can all of one's contacts be accessed when you have to switch to SIM card use in a different country, for example? If not, then copying contacts one at a time would be a nuisance.
Can DM be configured to copy contacts to the SIM card, if necessary?
Why backup to the sim when you can save it with DM to your PC?
Just in case one needs to switch back to a normal cell phone for what ever their reason may be.
My wife is a good example... she dropped her 8220 in the water. Emergency back up cell phone is a SE 810i, her SIM card still works but would have been nice if her contacts where on it so she could have copied contacts from sim card to cell phone. Instead BB phones like to erase all sim contacts and forces you to use DM for backing up everything.
Unfortunately BB contact to SIM card is one contact at a time. Great time killer while sitting on your "throne".
