For install instruction to load any carrier 8900 OS on your BB:
1. Download desired OS to your PC
2. Install/run OS to PC
3. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.
4. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
5. Do not unplug BB during the process. It may take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.
OS v4.6.1.250 has been out for a while but not as an official release. It was a leaked version and had glitches that needed to be fixed. This OS is now fixed and officially released through Blackberry for TIM Italy.

.250 beta and .250 official release will be the same. If one had bugs, the other should have the same. if something is fixed, then it will have a newer version number.

Is this always true? I agree it makes sense. Some folks in the Pearl 8100 thread were saying that the Orange release of the 8120 latest firmware was 'better' than the other foreign release having the same version number. Wasn't sure what to make of that.

They are all betas until a carrier approves them and makes official. If the app version and package version is the same as the beta, then they are the same OS. If fixes are made, then it will have a new version.

No you don't have to wipe your device, just follow the directions. If you want some more reading go to the Blackberry 101 lessons, they have a lesson... It's under the Blackberry Help link at the top of every forum page, and in my signature on the 1st post.
