Broken Key - BB 8900 HELP!!! by trading-man 09:04 AM 01-12-2009 -- [Reply]
Hello everybody,

I've got the curve 8900 from T-Mobile Germany, and the large key around the trackball broke (on the smallest side upside). I remembered this at night, when the backlight shines trough.

Anybody here with the same problem? Does RIM know about this? T-Mobile don't want to change the device.

And..... my blackberry didn't fall down and so on!!!

:-)

Regards

Can you post a picture of the problem?

Cnn.cn carries replacement keyboards for your 8900. it is OEM so it should make your unit good as new since your provider probably wants a
hefty fee to take care of this for you.

As bergerking mentioned, it is part of the keyboard assembly. Just order a new one of those and replace it. Keep in mind you may want to keep your actual keyboard as it is the QWERTZ instead of the QWERTY replacement that you will get when you order. This will at least get you the replacement for the broken button you have.

How exactly did it break, may I ask? It's ironic.. The first thing that went through my head when I first saw the connector between the BB Menu and Back keys was "wow, this looks like it'll break."

I have the exact same problem on my Curve 8900, but I don't know how it broke. I realized it when using the device in the dark, because light came through the broken location.

So you are number 3 with this problem :-)

I just found a guy here in Germany with the same problem!

It seems to be a quality problem with this key :-)

yep i just noticed the same problem on my phone.. just ordered the oem keyboard thru cnn.cn

hope all goes well when its type for me to 'operate'

it wouldnt be as noticeable if it wasnt for this "slight broken plastic" sound i hear when i click the menu button. the aesthetic of the menu bar is dumb...and mine didnt fall either

is it specifically a problem with the T-Mobile Germany units, or does the T-Mobile USA 8900's have this problem too?
