With todays new BlackBerrys, would you still consider the Flip?

Hello everyone,

I am looking into buying a second BlackBerry for personal use and have my current BlackBerry Curve 8900 function as a work phone....

Hello everyone,

I am looking into buying a second BlackBerry for personal use and have my current BlackBerry Curve 8900 function as a work phone. Without much talk all I am really looking for is GSM and WiFi capability; the Pearl Flip 8220 seems to fit that category well. What I really like about it is the price as well and for a personal (primarily multimedia and gaming) phone I don't want to pay much.

The long story
I had my share of experience with SureType on my earlier Pearl 8110. Can't really say I love it, because using it for communication in other languages than English can get very tricky. I forgive the Pearl series for this as SureType is a good balance and trade for a much slimmer design, which I absolutely love.

"Striker" or the new 9100 is out, but personally I don't feel that excited about it as it merely is an updated 8100 with the trackpad, newer firmware and a prettier look. I also don't believe there will be a real successor to the current generation of Pearl Flip for a long time, therefore the desire for a flip phone can only be fulfilled by going for the Pearl Flip (8220/8230). As I still am a trackball person it doesn't really matter much to me whether the device has a trackball or a trackpad - as long as it works that is.

Although 128MB device memory isn't much, it'll be enough for a couple of games and essential software (mainly Twitter clients, Viigo, et cetera). Something I love about the Pearl Flip is the 240x320 screen. Now why would I say that if I personally have a much higher resolution screen on my current BlackBerry? Simple. As I stated above, it'll be primarily a multimedia and gaming phone that I am looking for. Hundreds of Java games are out there just waiting to be loaded on the Pearl Flip. There's only one question, which remains open: will SureType affect game controls? Depends on the game I believe. For music I'll slam in a 4GB Media Card anyway!

Summary
I am familiar with SureType and find it acceptable. I love the design of the Pearl Flip and am aware of its "limitations" compared to my current BlackBerry Curve 8900. All I really am looking for is GSM and WiFi capability, the Pearl Flip 8220 is able to give me just that and in a sexy package.

Seeking for opinion
Given that the Pearl Flip form factor is still unique in its own right and the fact that it is a BlackBerry, I have really a hard time deciding whether or not I should decide for one. Reading through these forums most of the issues are minor, sometimes user-error and almost always have a solution - much like the atmosphere over at the BlackBerry Curve 8900 section.

What I really want to know is that with todays new BlackBerrys, would you still consider the Pearl Flip? Please tell me at least one thing you absolutely love about your Pearl Flip and at least one thing you absolutely hate, but still can live with it.

Thank you much CrackBerry community, your input is most appreciated!

So, I decided to upgrade my phone to 4.6.0.305.

At first, it was freezing but that's because I apparently can't read and didn't remove the myfaves app.

Now though, The external display is just showing "T-mobile" not the clock. Online, it says to restore the default theme with Crackmem. I've used it a couple of times and understand how to use it pretty much.

I've tried twice to restore the default theme I removed so I could have my external screen back. Hasn't worked. Usually just end up with 30 minutes that I can't use my phone and it's back to normal.

I really don't want to just go back to the Tmobile version of the OS(this one seems much better, since I removed Myfaves, no crash. Which is good compared to the daily crash/app error restart) I just want a way to restore my external screen.

Is there a direct install I can do of the theme from my phone instead of using desktop manager? Or is there something else I can try? Any ideas?

Obviously, I've tried battery pulls. Didn't think they'd work. But were worth a try. Really isn't a huge problem, except when it comes to answering calls. If no answer to the first problem, how do I make it so opening the flip doesn't answer the call?(i don't know if that's possible, never needed it before. But I'd rather have a stable os rather than an external screen as long as I can see who's calling before I answer, lol.

BTW, I do have blackberry attachment services installed.

Tmo sent me a new battery--same thing. If I pull the battery out at night it will hold whatever % it came out with. Something is draining either battery with the phone turned off. I've noticed on like 3 or 4 songs that it'll play a song, then in the middle of the song it'll randomly put parts of a completely different song in there, and then revert back to the one it was originally playing. The songs play fine on my computer, so it's gotta be the phone. Any ideas on how to fix this or what causes it?
