So I am currently sitting in a bar and noticed 12 people with their cell phones out..

Out of those 12 people 3 are rocking iPhones, 3 are playing with their BB Pearls, 3 have out their 83xx Curves, 1 guy with an 8830 and one with a 9630 then me with my 8310.

And people say that RIM is in trouble and Apple is taking their market share. BTW, its mainly younger people so the "older professional" arguement doesn't work.

You know, I like a good joke as much as the next guy, I really do. However, this is taking it too far. I've never been addicted to crack, so maybe you would be likely to say that I have no right to be offended. Comparing the "plight" of our consumer, capitalist, materialistic society (so-called "CrackBerry addiction") to that of anyone who has actually suffered from a real addiction is absurd and obscene and disgusting. I have struggled with substance abuse problems all my life and whenever I hear someone casually claiming that they are an addict it hurts. It brings back memories that I've been working to forget and problems that I've struggled to overcome for years now. There's nothing funny about addiction and I feel quite confident when I say that none of you here actually suffer from a genuine addiction. To me, people who casually sling the word "addict" around are as bad as anyone who would dare to use the n-word. I appreciate that, for anyone else, this wouldn't be the case. It's just ironic, though, that in today's world of excessive connectivity and communication, courtesy and consideration seem to have gone by the wayside.

I was thinking the other day, there is always all this talk about which Blackberry on the current market is the best. Or is it better to have a Touch Screen or a Physical Keyboard. Or is The BlackBerry of X-size better than on that is either larger or smaller. What is the ideal screen size. Which features are Necessary versus what peripherals are just unnecessary. Which functionalities are included but never actually used versus those that are needed and not standard, be it Wi-Fi, Auto-correcting text or spaces between the keys. So this forum is designed to get input and ideas on what you YOU the BB user considers to be the Makings of the perfect Blackberry. No Ideas are wrong, well not THAT wrong but some ideas might bring thoughts to the forefront that previously have been overlooked or disregarded.

The makings of MY perfect Blackberry is sort of a combination of the Storm2 and the Original Blackberry Bold. This is from a Physical functional aspect not the technical and processing speed aspect. Now for all I know there may be a Blackberry in the pipeline that is aiming to execute these functionalities but hey, it's not a the local Electronics store or available online so as far as I'm concerned it doesn't exist. The Device would be the same size as a Bold because in spite of all the complaints about it's width, the screen made sense at that size and for someone with larger hands it was ideal. The difference would be that for all navigation you would have a screen that was touch sensitive and responsive like the Storm2. To me that would be the best of both worlds, a physical BB Keyboard, the best in the business and the reason why BB has been so successful coupled with the ability to touch navigate which greatly increases productivity and will always outweigh a trackball, trackpad, or whatever the next non-touch navigation tool may be.

YOUR THOUGHTS???

I came to crackberry owning my 3rd blackberry device but not knowing a whole lot about how to get the most out of my BB. I never really complained about the S1 until it froze up on me while I was getting an emergency call from work to come in ( surgical tech working in open heart surgeries) and that was unacceptable.... By coming to this site I learned about the latest update and all the apps one can afford or stand to afford and the ones that are great, efficient and the not so much ones.

But the cool thing about this site is that you can come in knowing absolutely nothing but after a little while of reading the forums, the questions and answers....you become knowledgeable enough to help yourself, guide others to information and maybe even answer their questions.

In that sense I think this site is a great outlet to "pay it forward"
So thank you to all of you!

Ok, like many others before me, I had to go out and try out the new kids on the block (Android). I'll admit it was a lot of fun and the browsing was definitely better but in the end, like all wayward spouses, I realized what I had at home was better :o The touch screen was nice but there aint nothing like a keyboard to get things done fast. The technology of these new phones is amazing and they have plenty of bells and whistles but I just seem more efficient and satisfied on my BB 8900. Oh and did I mention how much I missed UMA? How would I ever live without it? So, like a good mother, I will pass my nice little Android device to my daughter who REALLY needs something decent and I am going back to my beloved 8900. The next time I stray from the fold will be to go to another bigger and better BB. :p

Yet another in a continuing list of deaths caused by people text messaging while driving. In the past 5 weeks, I've almost been hit in three crosswalks by drivers text messaging and not paying attention to their driving. This is really out of control.

_ _ _ _ _

Original article from the BBC here ---> BBC News | UK | 'Text message' driver gets five years

'Text message' driver gets five years

Browning denies a text message caused the accident

A lorry driver who was sending a text message to his girlfriend when he hit and killed a man has been sentenced to five years in jail for causing death by dangerous driving.

The court case, thought to be the first of its kind in the UK, centred on whether or not Paul Browning, 36, from Kenley, Surrey, was messaging on his mobile phone at the time of the collision.

It is difficult to imagine a more blatant act of such of cold blooded disregard for safety on the roads

Paul Hammond, 24, from Hockley, Essex, was killed in June last year after being hit by Browning's heavy goods vehicle, in a lay-by on the A13 at Pitsea, Essex.

Browning admitted causing death by dangerous driving but denied that he was using his phone at the time of the accident.

In his judgment on Wednesday, Judge Daniel Worsley said Browning's explanation that the message was keyed in while he was in stationary traffic was "wholly unbelievable".

He said that while the lorry driver was remorseful about what had happened, it was "difficult to imagine a more blatant act of such of cold blooded disregard for safety on the roads."

Victim Paul Hammond was standing in a lay-by at the time of the crash

He said the five-year jail sentence was necessary to send a "stern deterrent' to drivers, stressing there was now serious public concern about motorists using mobile phones while driving.

Outside court the victim's father, Alan Hammond, said that justice had been done, but it would not bring back his son.

He said: "A lesson has been learned today that mobile phones can be lethal weapons."

Inspector Alan Jelley of Essex Police said the jail sentence - which could have been a maximum of 10 years under dangerous driving laws - sent a strong safety message to the public.

'Lost concentration'

Earlier Barry Gilbert, prosecuting, told Southend Crown Court Browning lost concentration while composing a text message and slowly veered off the road into the lay-by.

The court was told Browning was in the process of writing a text message to his girlfriend when the accident occurred.

Paul Browning: Remorseful about the accident

Browning's message to his girlfriend read: "Oh yes! A real scorcher! Well just leaving Benfleet 4 West Thurrock job No7 of 11."

After an expletive, Browning then ended the message with the words: "Call you back!"

Mr Gilbert told the court he did not believe Browning had been aware he had hit Mr Hammond because if he had he would not have ended the message in such a way.

But Kim Hollis, defending, said her client had been preoccupied with some papers which were flapping in his cab.

She said although he had composed a message earlier, he was not in the process of doing it when the accident happened.

Dragged down carriageway

The court heard Browning did send a message from his mobile phone shortly after the accident.

The court was told that at the time of the accident, the victim was standing in the lay-by speaking to his mother through the window of her Ford Escort.

His BMW car was parked behind her vehicle, also in the lay-by.

He had forgotten his glasses and she was delivering them to him.

Mr Gilbert said the victim was dragged some distance down the carriageway after being struck.
