While I am able to open the GPS app, it runs incredibly slow. To the point it cant be used.

I also deleted the app and re-installed, nothing.
I even tried the app directly from Telenav... same issue, its so unresponsive.

Anyone else getting or having issues with sluggish or extremely slow GPS with telenav or Sprint Nav??

Hi.

I have a Blackberry Bold 9000 and my carrier (Rogers), blocked my GPS function on my phone. I've tried many things to enable it but it will not find a satellite. I've also had issues where I try to browse using WiFi but the phone says I need to browse through my mobile service. I've read on forums that carriers do that so you buy a data package. I cannot install Blackberry Maps or Any other map app without it telling me i need to turn on data or telling me it's not capable with my phone. My buddy bought his from RIM and everything works fine for him (even without a data package)

I've been trying to figure this for a few weeks and gathered some informaton on how to come about to solve it, but i still need to know if there are other options.

A - Use JL Cmder and load on another firmware other than the one my carrier gave to install.

B - Something to do with 'IT Permissions' (no clue what that means)

C - Log in through test/engineer mode and enable the GPS.

Is there anyway to fix this issue? What woudl be the best way around it?

Please help. I am new to Blackberries and do want to love them :(

Why is there no navigation apps with maps stored onboard like there is for all other mobile platforms.

I've heard people say that apps do not run from the sd card, but this is the case for andorid as well and copilot has a app where the maps are stored on the sd card and the application on the phone itself.

There has to be some other issue preventing this. I would love to hear from someone knowledgable about why this can't be done on the blackberry.

Thanks

I hope this hasn't been covered too many times before....

I am not having any luck using my gps with bb maps or google maps. Bb maps takes forever to locate me and google puts me in such a big radius that its not even worth it.

I read the tip about downloading the free trial of Garmin and that seems to be a quick fix. I downloaded it and Garmin can't even locate me. I had it running for while I was on the road for an hour and a half and it never picked me up.

Are there any kind of settings that I can check on my phone to make sure I can get a gps signal?

Thanks!

whats everyone's opinion/feedback on using google maps.

the reason im asking is because to me google maps was extremely unreliable.
latest example
i was going to ikea and it gave me a wrong address
it said exit towards 41th st. when in fact it was 43rd st. exit
so i passed it asked it to reroute made a loop on the freeway driving back it gave me the right street number that time. very odd.

many times google showed adresses that did not exist anymore or did not ever exist at that location.

never had that problem with garmin.

as i was driving back from ikea i tried to avoid traffic and selected show traffic . after 30 seconds and already passing the turn it showed the road i was on but not the alternative(Painfully slow loading) so i ended up stuck in traffic because of an accident...

my personal opinion about cellphone google maps navigation: FAIL!!!

Hi guys,

I just found this Disaster Alert app on the web and I was wondering if anyone of you tried that before?

If yes, what is your experience? Is it worth getting?

Disasteralert seems to have GPS and mapping features as well. So I put this thread into the GPS & Mapping category. Hope that's fine.

I think it is a great idea but I would like to read some info first before I get it.
