Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have lost my phone and am covered by Vodafone insurance. This has happened before and its really easy just to go into the store and get a new one. However i have a Storm and hate it. I want a bold or something different. Does anyone know if one can change their replacement phone to one similarly priced?

Thanks,

9700, Vodafone and UMA=Not!! (Repeat post)

I apologize as this is a repeat post to the one in the 9700 thread (http://forums.crackberry.com/f146/9700-vodafone-uma-not-363556/), but I wanted to...

I apologize as this is a repeat post to the one in the 9700 thread, but I wanted to make sure all Vodafone users are aware of this issue (and see if anyone has a workaround yet):

Have been playing around with my new 9700 from Vodafone in the UK and love it. Small, fast, slick and the apps are all working well (aside from Truphone taking their time on OS5 support). However, I was sold these devices under the assumption (and information falsely confirmed by a Vodafone telesales business rep) that the 9700 would support full UMA services on their network. Well, while the wi-fi is humming away beautifully for data, it seems that Vodafone have disabled the UMA calling feature and opted for their own "signal-booster" using a landline telephone (not that this solves anything, but trying to receive services in an old house made of stone).

I just spent an hour on the phone speaking with various representatives and the conversations will continue on Monday morning to try and resolve this misstep on their part, but just a heads-up to anyone thinking of going with a 9700 on Vodafone:

Brilliant phone, but UMA calling is disabled (just like Rogers in Oh-Canada). Reminds me of Verizon doing the same thing with GPS in the US back in the day... Silly bastards, innovation can't be blocked, so why bother trying to stifle it in favor of a quick pound and alienate your customers in the process?!?

On a somewhat related matter, has anyone managed a crack for this aside from wiping the OS? Perhaps some ideas from another handset's successful workaround? Thanks!!

Hi all

I posted this on the main Bold forum and a helpful soul (thank you darkone338) suggested I ask over here..........

1st -apologies if this has been covered before but I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I have a recently upgraded from a Pearl 8110 to a Bold 9000 on the Vodafone UK network. The fisrt handset they sent me was apparently on the black list so was unusable. The replacement handset never worked correctly with the following issues:-

The device can send a receive calls, SMS, MMS, emails etc no problem - it is configured for Email on the BIS. Here is where it starts to confuse me. Under "Services Status" in the "Manage Connections" folder the device tells me that the BIS is not connected - neither in the BES. How can I receive email via my BIS-configured email accounts if this is the case? This is the impact - If I try to run BlackBerry Maps I get an error message saying "Your device is not configured for BIS or BES access. Consult your wireless service provider or system administrator." How can this be?

If I try to access BlackBerry App World I get the following error message "Upgrade your service to a plan that includes browsing..........Contact your service provider etc..." This is again mad as I have absolutely no problem browsing the internet on my device normally.

I have been in contact with Vodafone Tech support and they are useless - they told me the device was faulty and sent me a new one - after changing the devices over it demonstrates exactly the same behaviour! I think the problem is with the way my subscription is configured as when I originally upgraded they managed to delete BIS accidentally and then re-activated it.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks - this is driving me mad :-)

Jon

vodafone free update from storm 1 to storm 2

hello,

hello,

ok many of those storm 1 users know what problems we have with vodafone sorting the bugs in the 9500 so this is how iv got mine updated free of charge to a 9520 (aka storm 2). My contract has not changed or been extended.

Im currently paying £25 excluding vat on a small business plan which i receave 500 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited landline calls, unlimited internet and unlimited blackberry webmail.

basiclly, its a pain in the arse to get them to exchange it free of charge but i managed heres a basic outline.

1st)
Send e-mails requestioning eather version 5 of the operating system, a replacment handset or cancelation of contract without fee's due.
remember to:
remind them that it is there legal duty to fix your problems.
let them know that you are already on the lastest 4.x software
that these problems are not hardware related but software

2ed)
They will try and get you to exchange it for another storm 1, remind them that this will not solve the issues due to it being a software problem.

3rd)
go into the store and ask to speak to a manager, they will refuse to exchange it for the 9520 but it will be logged that you have tryed.

4th)
call 191 and ask to speak to a superviser, they will ask what your problem is and try and resolve it with you, explain that you are going to take them to court if they do not resolved your problems. make sure you explain that if they exchange it for another storm 1 you will have the same problems. also remind them that yes it was a free gift however it was used to entice you into signing the contract and is there for covered by the sale of goods act and they have to provide you with a fault free handset. eather by repairing your handset (Which they cant do due to it being software related and them not having os 5 yet) or providing you with an alternative handset of the same or better spec (only the storm 2 has the same size screen so thats the only one that will be sutable)

at the end of my phone call they had authentication to send me a 9520 (took 45mins of being put on hold)

so thats it, mine is in the post and getting delivered tomorrow :D also got a new 9500 here as well which iv used for all of 3 days and they didnt call me back with what to do with it like they said they would.

so i hope you find this usfull :p
