You know since we have the Jesus people in here I have a question.
When Kurt Warner won his first super bowl he yelled out on the mic thanking jesus. So he basically gave jesus the credit for the win, and the ability to play football.
Well how come when Kurt lost 2 more super bowls, Kurt never thanked jesus? Or even better, why didn't he blame jesus? You see my point? Someone please explain this to me.
Why when a guy hits a homerun he points to the sky and thanks jesus? If jesus loves us all equally then obviously he doesn't. He must have loved the hitter much more than he did the pitcher. Or he loved the hitter more than the right fielder who leaped over the wall and couldn't make the catch. Aren't I correct? - 03-08-2009, 08:15 PM #53
Of course you can't answer why. Because you have no logical answer. So you come into the atheist thread to spread the "love" and tell us that jesus "loves" us all. But you can't give a logical explanation for why maybe jesus "loves" Ben Roethlisberger more than Kurt Warner. Obviously jesus didn't help Kurt this past February. So he must have loved Pittsburgh much more.
I use the silly points to make a point. - 03-08-2009, 09:33 PM #54
Religion and lack there of are different fields, it's really that simple. It's like asking someone to explain a lemon using oranges. Although you CAN try they are in the end different. Religion isn't necessarily the lack of logic, but it does turn a blind eye to things (such as why, how, etc) that atheists cannot.
My advice, if you're religious, be so, if you're atheist, then too, be so, but do not attempt to falter the other, as you will be entering grounds where all you know means nothing and has no legitimacy.Interesting OS updates:

I'm an atheist

Why can't Christians understand we as non believers cannot grasp the concept of blindly believing in something like god? I understand you feel the duty to save my soul from eternal damnation but we've made our choice.

I am an Athiest...
I think that all religion should be banned for the simple fact that it is the cause of most of the worlds problems today.
Also look at the loss in human lives that have been because "My god is better then your god" - 03-09-2009, 02:20 AM #58
Um, turning a blind eye to an ordered universe, people with built in morals etc would count as turning a blind eye in my book. There's a lot for the atheist to explain... and the explanations have been pretty fantastical so far - requiring far more faith to believe than creation. The big bang originated with a speck of very dense dust? Where did that speck of dust come from?

I mean really no one knows wher it all began - even the scientists but they can get it down to a few milliseconds after the big bang (or expansion) and it makes a lot more sense trhan the magic involved in religion, as that same sciance also explains many observable phenomena also.... Don't start the god was a scientist and made the big bang argument because if he ever did then that was all he did as everything else unfolds like clockwork.

Ok, that explains it all then
oh except where did all the matter come from that formed the universe in the big bang? I don't get how anyone can seriously take the big bang as the origin of all - the big bang assumes the preexistence of matter and energy...

Yes, but imo that possibility is so far down the list of possibilities that it can be ignored. It is just as likely to me that. The universe sprang into existence in 1968 when I was born. On fact that theory would hold up better as I have tangible proof of the universes existence post 68 but not before. I have NOTHING to make me believe a divine power is involved. All based on story books from years ago (which of course can't be true, as we all know the universe began in 1968). ;-)

People it's called having FAITH!
You either have it or don't have it or one day something happens in your life and shows you reasoning for faith!

I don't think you can:
Have an option on the list of possibilities AND
Ignore that possibility
Either its on the list, or its not. Ignoring any possibility, no matter how small, is very poor scientific practice.

It's on the list but the probability is soooooooo small that it Can be safely ignored. This "poor" scientific practice is at the root of quantum mechanics, which just happens to be the science behind all electrical devices including the one in your hand my friend.

I agree - religious people need faith as a basis of their beliefs, but I wish atheists would admit that you likewise need faith to state that there is no god or higher power. I wish they would not try to lean on science, as the theories can never explain anything before this big bang

If you claim to be an atheist, you need to be able to confidently say "I am 100% sure there is no god" - as soon as you use the word 'probability' you admit you are not 100% sure, even if there is just a 1 over 10 to the power of 100 (or smaller) probability of god, you're not an atheist. You need to be able to banish all probability. Otherwise you're and agnostic
