Anime/manga BB users
Yo! Any anime or manga fans out there? Let's start a group. Right now I'm watching most of the new anime that's out and reading some manga on the side. Add me if you want.

Fumoffu! ;-)
I really liked the Full Metal Alchemist series and because it happened to be next on the DVD list, I watched the Full Metal Panic series as well. I've also watched Cowboy Bebop and The Melancholy of HS.
Maybe you can recommend some of your favorites? - 05-27-2008, 04:27 AM #3
Count me in, it's hard trying to find fellow anime/manga lovers out there. One site I would recommend is www[dot]animeone[dot]com. Its a streaming anime site and adds new series every month. Most of the vids are subbed which might be hard for some who can't read and watch at the same time.

FMA was an awesome series. I saw the movie not too long ago and I wasn't too impressed with the ending. I think I expected a lot more. I've only watched some of the FUll Metal Panic, the second raid and that was hilarious. I felt so bad for that guy Chidori was always beating up lol.

Ok I have to ask....how on earth did you like FLCL !?! I watched the entire thing but I had no idea what the heck was goin on. It was so weird and I just didn't get it. Maybe I missed something
Now for your other anime choices, those are ok
Yea buying anime and manga is a major expense. Plus I was running out of room to put everything lol. - 05-27-2008, 03:26 PM #9
LOLZ, thats the point, there is no real point to it. Yeah it had some weak plot to it, but it was funny to watch. Its like Shin-chan or Oh Super Milk-chan, pointless but funny
Yeah, tell me about it. I have about half of my list both in DVD and VHS. I have to rent a small storage unit to store all the VHS.
Here is a question, what started you on anime/ what was the very first anime you watched? Mine was Venus Wars back when Sci-Fi used to show it every Friday night a long time ago.Last edited by benkild; 05-27-2008 at 03:35 PM.

whoa! storage unit? sheesh! If you have a spare corner I can add all my stuff
And ok, I'll buy that argument for FLCL lol.
"Here is a question, what started you on anime/ what was the very first anime you watched?"
Definitely dragon ball z. I was a little kid and I was like "wow! how come all the other cartoons aren't like this!" Clearly I didn't know about the difference between anime and cartoons at that time. Then in high school I watched sailor moon for a bit but it got too cutsey for me.
I'd say the real hook was about 2 years ago when my ex got me into naruto. I've been watchin anime ever since then.
Venus Wars sounds familiar. What was that about? - 05-27-2008, 06:57 PM #11
Wow, didn't expect as many anime fans around these parts.
For some old school favs of mine check out;
Gunbuster
Devil hunter yohko
Project a-ko
Macron 1 ( crappy saban hack and slash of two anime series but with 80s music!)
Prefectural earth defense force
Japanese run of sailor moon (especially last 3 seasons)
Sol bianca
Escaflowne
Evangelion
That's all I can think of

Mine is pretty easy...
Robotech
And does Battle of the Planets count?

I don't think I know about Battle of the Planets, I may have to do some research on that one. Was it good?
I know Robotech! I came across it awhile ago. Supposedly there is a new robotech movie coming out sometime next year I think. According to wiki, it's the sequal to a movie that came out in 2007. - 05-27-2008, 11:42 PM

I have other stuff in there, not just my VHS, but yeah. If you want to travel to AZ that is.
Venus Wars, I cant really remember it. It has been about 10 years since I seen that one. Now I'm gonna have to look for it again.
If you love 80's music, then Heavy Metal should be a shoe in.
Only thing I don't like is that its hard to find the old anime on DVD. Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock, Voltron, even Sailormoon is hard to find.
Devil Hunter Yohko, Project A-ko, and Sol Bianca are good ones too. Have you seen Fushigi Yugi? I still haven't finished that one.Last edited by benkild; 05-28-2008 at 03:36 AM.

Battle of the Planets had the five kids in hawk styled costumes and their space ship transformed into a firery phoenix. Don't know if it had different names in different countries. Casey Casem (sp?) did the voice of the leader. Voltron was somewhat the same style of show.

I remember Fushigi Yugi! The main character liked to eat right? I don't think I ever finished that anime either cuz it was super long. It had a lot of episodes. Have you read the manga? I started it but never got past volume 1.
Did you ever see Ceres? It's by the same author. It's pretty good.
I found some of the old anime like Galaxy Express on Veoh and there are torrents available on other sites. I guess if you had a dvd burner, you could just burn your own dvds. Whew! That sounds like a lot of work though. - 05-28-2008, 11:31 PM

I never thought of it but when it first came out it was the first Japanese cartoon I watched. It was Pokemon not sure if it was considered an anime. I was only about 12, amazing that it is still running new shows.

I remember Battle of the Planets, well I actually haven't seen it. But I have seen ads for it on other shows that I've seen. I have wanted to see it, but been to lazy to look for it.
I haven't seen Ceres either, but sounds familiar.
Pokemon wasn't as bad, if you have seen the Japanese version. The Americanized version is the one that's bad. The same thing with Cardcaptor Sakura. It would have been better if it wasn't edited for little kids.

Yea definitely agree with that. They edited a lot with pokemon. One of the main reasons why I prefer subbed over dubbed.
My friend insists that I watch cardcaptor since I watched tsubasa and xxHolicxx. Worth it?
Anyone have any animes they hate or just didn't like? First one on my list is One Piece. I just can't get into that show. I couldn't even finish the first episode.

I'm pretty much an anime n00b :-p I remember watching Akira sometime back in high school, my junior or senior year i think. Pretty much hated all anime and anime-related things until this year, late last year. Here's a brief list.
Appleseed (2004 remake, love this one)
Appleseed Ex Machina (pissed they changed voice actors on english dub)
Elfen Lied
Neon Genesis Evangelion (um.. platinum collection? And i think my disc 6 is the same as disc 5 or something... or i'm just a moron)
Aquarion part I
Gunslinger Girls (interesting)
Black Lagoon (wishing i could get season 2 somehow, love this series)
Godannar (I didn't like this at first, but it grew on me, and I was sad to see it end)
Karas (love this one)
Noein
and that's all I can think of right now.
I tend to like things high-tech and/or violent lol. I started... um, Gundam Seed but disc 2 is hosed on 2 sets so far, I have to call Bandai or some crap to get it replaced. bah. - 05-29-2008, 11:31 PM #23
I think its worth watching Cardcaptor.
What I hate about anime is the young whiny mech pilots. Gundam is famous for that and Shinji in Evangelion just takes it to a whole new level.
But if I would have to pick one, right now it would have to be Inuyasha. I didn't like it in the first place, but it just ended abruptly. The last episode was a complete joke. Naraku ended up with the completed jewel, and everyone was like "Lets join hands and continue to fight. Yeaaaaaaa!!!!"
Ok, that may not be an exact quote, but you get the jest of it. I know the manga is in the final arc now, but I dont know if they are gonna continue the anime.
I usually get my anime from AnimeNation. They always have deals going on and you can trade in your old anime for credit towards new ones. They never failed me in the past and replace several of my dvds that had bad encoding, no questions asked.

I actually kinda like Inuyasha. Got into it through my younger sister. Favorite character in the series is Hoshiyomi.

I was just thinking, if you like the violent anime, I have a couple of suggestions.
M.D. Geist (both of them)
X the movie (haven't seen the series)
Apocalypse Zero
Ninja Resurrection
Perfect Blue
Kite
Battle Angel Alita (aka Gunnm)
That's all that I can think of right now.
