I used to display it, just got a couple undesirables. If anyone wants it, and we've at least spoken on here, I'll give it.

I had just about all of the SSP's. My fav was the SSP Demolition Derby with the ramps and break away cars. There was 4 brothers that lived across the street and we would have daily SSP Demolition Derby contests. One day I took one of my demolition cars and glued the fly away parts. after I won the the next day and was gathering all the candy that I won, my stupid sister came up and said "so that's why you took my glue."

So here's a question for the over 40 crowd... Why did you choose to get a BlackBerry and what do you primarily use it for? Obviously our needs are different from those of the younger generation so I'm interested to see what your thoughts are.

Well communication on wm6 sucks. The battery would only last half a day then die so I needed something more reliable. Although I really miss the ease of use with documents and spreadsheets as I need to log workouts and client info. I use my blackberry to communicate with clients and book appointments mostly. I am very interested in the social side though. As I don't do much I'm but I'm interested in trying out the messenger functions of the blackberry. Plus t mobile gave me a real good deal cause my contract was up and I figured if I didn't like it I could always sell it on eBay and make a profit. But I like it and will be posting my shadow for sale this weekend.

For me, my use is mostly personal. Contract was up, don't like the Windows OS, wanted good call clarity, good email, my son had just gotten one (first foray off the family plan) and he loves it. Plus, it was free (was staying with ATT anyway). So here I am. This is the first forum I've ever joined. Well, since Compuserve anyway. ( 'member them?)

To organize my life! My work schedule changes and I take call so it helps with that. I'm also using a mobile checkbook register and I'm addicted to RSS feeds.
Some people are like slinkies. Not good for much, but you can't help but smile when you give them a lil push down the stairs.

Hello all -
I'm 50 and this is my first BB ... Text msging on my Motorola Razr was driving me batty - love the email delivery from work and personal emails. Means I can keep in touch with clients in and out of the office. The bomus is also being able to keep in touch with clients when the office email server goes down. Then everyone is highly jealous - I am a closet techno geekette (was in IT for over 20 yrs) so this 'toy with purpose' is almost better than ... [I said almost!] - 03-14-2008, 08:25 PM

I bought mine outright, no contract. Strictly a social user.
I wanted something that I could easily keep in contact with my family who no longer live within driving distance.
I felt it would be my best bet to have a bb for when I travel abroad.
I like the various options for comminicating and I'm quite partial to bbm
It's also a great life organizer. I'm finding it indespensible, keeping my appointments, tasks and alarms all in one gorgeous little package!
Bottom line: It's the best big dollar buy I've made since I bought my car a year ago. Certainly far better than the other cell phones I've owned

I chose the 8830 because of its feature set. It covered everything my older phone did, Motorola Star Tac 7868 with a Motorola Organizer on it and got me both a CDMA transciever and a GSM transciever for Europe and Asia. In addition the transcievers are outstanding, the 7868 had an outstanding transciever also and that was a major requirement. I could always get a signal in places where other phones would not. I also wanted a phone that I could use anywhere in the world with the feature set of the Motorola Organizer plus more. So that's how I ended up with a BB.
I use the phone for both personal and work so when I am on the road and I need some technical information I don't have to write it down on a napkin or whatever is handy while I am talking to someone on the phone I can have it emailed to me. Also with BB maps/Google maps I can find where I am at and do routes so I can find what I am looking for on the road and not get turned around. I can sycn it with Outlook and keep my contacts, calendar, notes and tasks in it just like on the Morotola Organizer plus lots more. I can also now buy 3rd party tools to add to the phone and I have. The overall long term cost was better than the other phones also because the data plan is required on the Blackberry and that gives me everything via BIS. I don't use SMS, MMS and all that other stuff and the plan did not require me to which kept the plan cost down.
So bottom line is I looked at this from a lot of angles and spent a lot of time looking at everything before I jumped into a new phone. I do not buy phones to often and I wanted it to last a long time. Time will tell but the BB has a good reputation for holding up if you take care of it which is true of anything. Whether it will last for 12-13 years (how long I used the 7868) we'll have to see.Last edited by jc34; 03-14-2008 at 08:34 PM.
