New Java DEV
Hey all you DEVs out there. After long consideration and mulling i have decided to try and make some apps. Ive bought some books to help me out as I'm not familiar with Java at all.
my question/worry is that Java is going to be obsolete when BB10 rolls out. I know the people over at RIM keep throwing HTML 5 around so does that mean its going to be mainly HTML and not so much Java? just want to know if im waiting my time leaning Java or should i go straight for HTML...~~ I am no longer active on this site ~~ - 04-17-2012, 08:19 AM #2
theres no more java in bb 10 just html5 covered with javascript. Best to start with C/C++ if u want native development all of the 'C' languages are similar (java is a 'c-styled' language) there are many many many links to variety of webworks (html5) developments in this forum

ignites's advice is spot-on. Use HTML 5 if you want your apps to work on existing and future phones, pickup C++ to write native apps for the PB and future devices.
I wouldn't do any new Java development now unless you have a specific need -- You'll just end up rewriting your apps for the newer platforms.
If you're new to development, go with HTML 5 as it's ridiculously easy and you can write and test a good bit of your app with a web browser, adding BB specific stuff when you're close to a finished product. - 04-18-2012, 08:15 AM
