I know how to put both a URL and phone number speed dial on the home screen but is there a way to put a document (icon) that are on either the sdcard or device on the home screen? Like PDF files etc.

Would like this option myself, including a folder with its contents. Had this ability with Torch, haven't found it with BB10 yet though. Maybe in 10.2 one can do this?

Theoretically you could place a Web shortcut to the document on as a shortcut

In practice that would be challenging.

It shouldn't be that tough to do from a development perspective. Only thing in not sure about is how to force the web link to open in something other than the browser. Although I suspect it may be automatic. Hard to tell with the simulator though.

I figured it out and my app is up in BlackBerry App World with it: Homescreen Shortcutter. You just use the absolute path for the file using the homescreen api.

Yup, I whipped up a quick test app using the homescreen class. Seems to work as intended. I'm still searching to see if there is any sort of HTML schema for choosing the rarer application though.
