Default Basic question about installing apps I develop

I would like to develop an app that I do not plan on distributing through app world for now. It then dawned on me that I have no idea how I would install it on my Playbook. Just how do you do this? Is it at all possible?

Also, do I have to get code signing keys if I'm just using it on my device?

P.S.: Please don't reply with a link to the BB developer website. I've seen a lot of replies with that and frankly I don't think it clarifies anything for noobies like myself. They give you five development options which is confusing in itself. Then you get more lost when you start reading each and all those installations you have to do, LOL.

    Yes you need them signed.

For PlayBook you can use DDPB (Install file for PC here DDPB.msi)

For BB you can install them using Desktop Manager or put them on your BB via media card or BB's memory and then install by openning it through a file manager on your BB

Thanks ignites. I have DDPB already and will use that.

I find it odd that I have to get an app signed that I plan on using only on my device. Would have expected that from Apple but not RIM.

well its free... actually it is important that it is signed it becomes a security issue if any apps can be installed on it (I believe apps can theoretically install themselves on a device if signing was not required) signing process is free and you cna write a batch file to sign apps so u just need to click and have the apps signed! its not a hard process so ya

Actually you do not need to sign your apps to install them on a device.

All you need are signing keys and debug tokens. Install debug tokens on the device, and when you package the app, use the "-d" flag.

You cannot release applications which are packaged using debug to app world.

    Good luck
